Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune without the words,
And never stops at all,
And sweetest in the gale is heard;
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm.
a nervous little bird, abash means nervous and disconcert
the speaker does nothing but compliment the bird because the. bird is shy and it sings its heart out
I agree with you when i read this i thought of the same thing abut only complementing the bird. I also belive that the bird is really shy just as you said.
The fist words in the first two sentence are the same they both start with “And” then the first word in the last two sentence start with “that”.This makes the rhythm pop out more to me.
I’ve heard it in the chillest land,
And on the strangest sea;
Yet, never, in extremity,
i liked how the poet wrote about the land tin the first sentence and then compared it to a sea because its a good rhyme and its comparing two opposite things.
It asked a crumb of me.
