1. Hosts and co-hosts can set up the a Kumospace room by clicking the edit tab in the lower right corner of the screen once you are in a room. You will have to move the geometric shapes away from the ipads to be able to edit the iPads with the links you want to use. You might keep the sound controls on regular and quiet throughout the session, emphasizing the peer-to-peer and small group interaction.

2. Choose three different NowComment documents for the jigsaw workshop.

  • Linked near the entrance: a brief excerpt that pulls together different threads of the content that the participants are working with together. You will ask participants to comment on the summary text, image, or short video at the beginning and at the end of the jigsaw.
  • Directions at each base table could be linked to the same NowComment document. In that document, give participants a link to a NowComment document (which can be images, text, or video) and guide them in how they should talk about the content and write comments and replies. Also provide a link to this helpful guide: Annotation Instructions. In this document you can also explain when to move to the expert tables and how they each will be called to report back to the base group with their deeper understandings from the expert gaoups.
  • Expert groups: Each group could discuss and annotate a different section fo the same text, video, or set of images. Choose a complex NowComment document that has many elements, (such as 16 Habits of Mind) and ask each group to spend time coming to collaborative understandings of one part of the document (such as Habits of Mind 1-4 or 9-12). Participants could be asked (and given enough time) to read and write their first thoughts on NowComment, have a conversation in their expert group, then return to NowComment to read others' comments and reply in ways that draw on their discussion. Participants will most likely need to be reminded that they will be asked to report back the information from their expert group to their base group. They could be given time to prepare for this.
  • Base Group Diirections. You could include a sectiion that says When you return from your expert group: Here you can give prompts to gide the reporting and the conversation. Also encourge (and give time for) a return to the annotations they made on the base group document. What are you thinking now?
  • Return to the document linked near the entrance. Asking for one or two more comments and replies on this summary and action-inspiring document can make this experience feel more meaningful.
