Here the word siege gives a sense of being doomed, as if the winter is so hard that it may last for years.
I believe metaphor decorates narrative, and the latter is bare without it.

ocean of noise

In an ocean of noise
I first heard your voice
Ringing like a bell
As if I had a choice, oh well.

This is from a song by Arcade Fire. I believe that the ocean plays significant role for people who have lost something or can't find what they're looking for. The vastness of ocean seems to hide an answer. While its beauty and ever-changing "mood" comforts the souls of artists of any kind.

To me, this point is one of the most important. "To sound credible, to sound credible", I repeat to myself like a maniac, when dealing with the tread I am not 100% sure on.
Back then to discover the truth could take hours (libraries), now it's just google (although u still need to be careful with sources).

I totally agree, that there should be no telephone in the writing your, or an open Facebook( or whatever) tab in the web browser, however, personally, I prefer to write listening to classical music. Also, a window with some nice scenery benefits my sick imagination.

When you put your thumb on the tip of your nose and waggle with fingers. A gesture that means kind of intentional disrespect in England.

A four-year old cannot actually remember an event because of unformed consciousness. She rather recalls by connecting visual fragments. Thus, quotation marks are stressing the figurative way of the given word.

The reviewer emphasizes the empathetic portrayal of the subject. Empathy tends to prevent objectivity. Personal tone brings more fiction than fact. On the other hand, in my personal opinion, Eva as a loving woman would never question Hitler's deeds. She seemed to be a type of a woman, who would state: "Even if the whole world's against you, I will silently stand behind your back and quietly supply you with bullets".

President-editor

My motherland has a neighboring country where the president's daily routine is a gradual rewriting of the region's history. It's being done in order to evoke the sense of national identity among the population (as the people living in that country are descendants of various assimilated tribes). Hence, the most convincing method of the past's distortion is to rewrite school history books. And it works. They now wish to occupy my country as they are sure it's historically theirs.
