She mentions that this part of town was not well known and that it was somewhat excluded from other larger parts of the surrounding area. This can relate to her cells being taken non-consensually because the doctors might look at it as a situation with less 'risk.' The doctors might have felt more comfortable taking cells from someone with a more difficult upbringing than someone with more money.
