I've seen this so much. This is helpful to consider that it's the engaging of preconceptions that could be key to preventing this.

I find myself identifying with all of these models - I've done all of this at different times. I would love to cultivate more of the teacher C side of me though.

This reminds me of the fish when the frog described the above world to him.

This is the kind of question I was alluding to earlier. A space to novelly apply what you know about a topic.

This reminds me of something I tried during my student teaching. I tried crafting some test questions that students wouldn't be able to just regurgitate information they memorized but have to engage with it in a novel way that demonstrated mastery. More than just applying in a longer written response. I only dabbled in it and wasn't very successful. I'd love to reopen that pursuit again.

This reminds me of "Big C" Church and "little c" church within Christianity. The "Big C" Church refers to the global church- all believers/followers of Jesus Christ. The "little c" church refers to a local body of believers. For me and my community- that's our house church that meets in each other's homes once a week and regularly hangs out together. Though other times this refers to a group of people that meet in a building together.

Rewarding students could be a positive way to reinforce stimuli/response connection. I'm cautious to use food though. Acknowledging food allergies, religious food observances and trying for students to develop healthy relationships to food - there's a lot to consider before incentivizing students with food.

I think about how the pondering of the difference between history and the past could fit among these questions that have engaged thinkers.

For this to feel true in 1996 feels valid and even more so today. I see this in Social Studies - where I'm less concerned with can students memorize years and facts but can they analyze a primary source, can they converse with someone with a different faith background about faith.
