We are always learning and even as teachers we also learn from our students. https://nowcomment.com/documents/316811?scroll_to=2873917 https://nowcomment.com/documents/316811?scroll_to=2873917 Tue, 30 Aug 2022 23:31:42 -0400 It is important to question other people's emotions as to what causes them to feel that way and I believe reading through several of my peers' proposals I also came up with the thought, What made them decide to choose this proposal?" https://nowcomment.com/documents/316811?scroll_to=2873916 https://nowcomment.com/documents/316811?scroll_to=2873916 It was amazing to see so many great thought-out proposals being related back to the habits of mind. I feel the more we question our thoughts, ideas, and problem the better we become at solving them and developing greater ideas. Many of my classmates must have sat and questioned themselves on the best proposal they can do to help better instruct students and this habit of mind plays a huge role to create ides. Tue, 30 Aug 2022 23:29:46 -0400 As I read your comment, I realized the same thing happened to me. I feel we gain a new perspective and it allows us to expand our creativity to a new level. https://nowcomment.com/documents/316811?scroll_to=2873812 https://nowcomment.com/documents/316811?scroll_to=2873812 Sometimes taking risks means innovating and allowing room for mistakes from which we can learn from. Tue, 30 Aug 2022 22:00:37 -0400 Doing a Scratch project and giving students the liberty to do a story animation about themselves gives them the freedom to engage and be free to create anything they want. It allows students to have fun while they learn. https://nowcomment.com/documents/316811?scroll_to=2873811 https://nowcomment.com/documents/316811?scroll_to=2873811 I believe having fun while learning allows students to better understand ideas and analogies, and gives them a different perspective in which they can play with. Tue, 30 Aug 2022 21:58:05 -0400 Sometimes the best way to learn or come on with a solution to a plan is by thinking, talking to yourself step by step can distinguish what works and what doesn't. https://nowcomment.com/documents/316811?scroll_to=2859970 https://nowcomment.com/documents/316811?scroll_to=2859970 Becoming aware of your own thought process and acknowledging the relation one has when thinking. Sun, 04 Jun 2023 16:16:11 -0400 I can relate. https://nowcomment.com/documents/316811?scroll_to=2859955 https://nowcomment.com/documents/316811?scroll_to=2859955 I am glad you have been encouraged. I feel sometimes that's what we need more encouragement for so we can speak up and not be afraid. I had that same problem growing which is the reason I hate participating but little by little one gains confidence. Thu, 18 Aug 2022 00:01:17 -0400 I think having a fixed mindset can be one of the toughest things to get unaccustomed to. A fixed mindset doesn't give you the flexibility to think outside the box and grow. https://nowcomment.com/documents/316811?scroll_to=2859954 https://nowcomment.com/documents/316811?scroll_to=2859954 I feel sometimes we all get stuck at a point that we keep pushing through with one idea that we can't shake and spend hours trying that same method when in reality if we had tried different methods the chances would have been different and a whole new learning experience. Wed, 17 Aug 2022 23:58:40 -0400 YESSSS https://nowcomment.com/documents/320783?scroll_to=2859953 https://nowcomment.com/documents/320783?scroll_to=2859953 I believe this is the most effective way of learning although not everyone learns the same. I feel for me visuals would always be important and I shall use visuals to teach my students as well. Although having a book in a physical form makes it more personal, digitals are not too bad as well. Wed, 17 Aug 2022 23:52:09 -0400 Hey, Destiny after seeing your scratch example I wanted to share mine as well. https://nowcomment.com/documents/320783?scroll_to=2859952 https://nowcomment.com/documents/320783?scroll_to=2859952 I enjoyed using scratch, I felt like it gave me the ability to be free and express myself especially with the About Me project which I believe students would truly enjoy as they get to express who they are and then share their masterpieces created through scratch. I feel scratch gives students the ability to do endless creative things. https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/701093895/editor Wed, 17 Aug 2022 23:45:28 -0400 Writing Redefined https://nowcomment.com/documents/320783?scroll_to=2859951 https://nowcomment.com/documents/320783?scroll_to=2859951 Apart from the engaging visuals, I like how it touches upon different ways writing can be better to help students express themselves. It touches upon real problems of why very few students identify themselves as writers and it's because writing becomes limited, narrowing down the capability of students exploring varieties of topics in a deeper way. It showcases various methods that could be effective for the student's writing. Wed, 17 Aug 2022 23:23:27 -0400 Engage students https://nowcomment.com/documents/320783?scroll_to=2859950 https://nowcomment.com/documents/320783?scroll_to=2859950 Engaging students would be the ideal outcome for better writing. After reading all your posts it reminded me of why I like to write. I feel that through writing, one is able to reflect and put on paper the ideas, thoughts, or questions one has. Furthermore, even more so when it's engaging or relatable. For some students, writing can be an outlet and find commonalities with other students if writing is also shared. Wed, 17 Aug 2022 23:15:32 -0400 I couldn't agree more. https://nowcomment.com/documents/320783?scroll_to=2859935 https://nowcomment.com/documents/320783?scroll_to=2859935 I usually do both in order to learn about the desired topic in depth, I would read articles to become well informed but I would also watch youtube videos as I am a visual learner. Each outcome has its benefits as you mentioned you could have instructional and exploratory. Both produce knowledgeable content in their own way and everyone learns differently.. Wed, 17 Aug 2022 22:51:25 -0400 Metacognition helps us educators better assess our students. In doing so we can focus on what is important and how we can make it better. https://nowcomment.com/documents/316811?scroll_to=2854477 https://nowcomment.com/documents/316811?scroll_to=2854477 As you stated it will help us have a better lesson directed to our students and would bring awareness to monitor and modify our thoughts. Metacognition allows us to think more deeply and ask the question we otherwise wouldn't. Sat, 30 Jul 2022 15:44:52 -0400 This is very true, we learn every day and build on that knowledge of how to do better. As I wrote the description of a child I learned that sometimes we most leave our emotional attachments to a side in order to focus on what is right infant of us. https://nowcomment.com/documents/316811?scroll_to=2854470 https://nowcomment.com/documents/316811?scroll_to=2854470 To construct any type of assessment we must see it from an educational perspective. We must answer every question as detailed as possible that could genuinely help us improve as teachers while attaining to our students. Sat, 30 Jul 2022 15:01:03 -0400 I do like how she asks herself specific question in regards to better reach the student, her reflection allows for her to make a change. https://nowcomment.com/documents/208695?scroll_to=2852117 https://nowcomment.com/documents/208695?scroll_to=2852117 Tue, 26 Jul 2022 14:48:52 -0400 Agreed, I feel as educators we sometimes forget that our student's mood can be affected by the medicine they may be taking and sometimes we are not even aware they are taking medicine. https://nowcomment.com/documents/208695?scroll_to=2852116 https://nowcomment.com/documents/208695?scroll_to=2852116 Knowing certain side effects that the medicine can cause can help understand the situation and better help the student. Tue, 26 Jul 2022 14:46:58 -0400 Having difficulty being able to express herself had led her to break down and it should be assessed so she can have tools or strategies to cope so it doesn't occur again. https://nowcomment.com/documents/208695?scroll_to=2852115 https://nowcomment.com/documents/208695?scroll_to=2852115 Tue, 26 Jul 2022 14:43:03 -0400 Yes, I agree, children tend to act out when they are not being understood which in turn makes it harder for them to express themselves. As an educator she must find ways to stimulate the child to develop her intellectual developing oral skills. https://nowcomment.com/documents/208695?scroll_to=2852114 https://nowcomment.com/documents/208695?scroll_to=2852114 Having the oral skills will allow her to feel more confident to express herself and be able to communicate. Also just because Jane is not verbally able to express herself it doesn't mean she doesn't understand the lesson so making a lesson easier will not her achieve the main goals. Instead it may bring up frustration and leave her behind. Tue, 26 Jul 2022 14:38:56 -0400 I think this is a really good question she should follow up on. It's up to her to pin point Jane's behavior and interest so she can find a solution that can benefit her . https://nowcomment.com/documents/208695?scroll_to=2852113 https://nowcomment.com/documents/208695?scroll_to=2852113 Tue, 26 Jul 2022 14:32:07 -0400 The classroom and education would be a better learning experience in which students will get more individual focus. https://nowcomment.com/documents/208695?scroll_to=2851911 https://nowcomment.com/documents/208695?scroll_to=2851911 Mon, 25 Jul 2022 23:08:34 -0400 Sometimes taking a step back to see the picture is all we need. In doing so it gives us clarity and the ability to see multiple opoint of views through a different lens. Sometimes we try to leap through hoops instead of taking the nessecary steps. https://nowcomment.com/documents/316811?scroll_to=2849784 https://nowcomment.com/documents/316811?scroll_to=2849784 Mon, 18 Jul 2022 20:00:58 -0400 I couldn't agree more, being part of LUTE-STEM in the schools we are placed we will have the ability to see first hand the different approaches that could be used. https://nowcomment.com/documents/207234?scroll_to=2849769 https://nowcomment.com/documents/207234?scroll_to=2849769 Every student is different and it is up to us educators to rule the best learning approach for them to be successful. Mon, 18 Jul 2022 19:56:39 -0400 Activities that Engage https://nowcomment.com/documents/207234?scroll_to=2849768 https://nowcomment.com/documents/207234?scroll_to=2849768 Children more often then not look for activities they can relate with and enjoy while learning. Therefore, I agree with you Maritza that having a host teacher to see this is important. Having students perform activities not only make is engaging but it also allows us to assess students and see what works well and what doesn't. Mon, 18 Jul 2022 19:53:02 -0400 I couldn't agree more with you! https://nowcomment.com/documents/207234?scroll_to=2849753 https://nowcomment.com/documents/207234?scroll_to=2849753 Many teachers tend to see bad behavior in a student when they are not properly seating with their hands crossed on top of the table and instead they are moving around and being talkative. Most time students who do this have underlying reasons that are dismissed or seen as they have a problem when in reality students have too much energy. Sometimes students get bored very easily when not engaged or they already know what is being taught. As educators we must first observe, assess and ask questions without assuming because a child's actions always have a based reason for their behaviors and this too could be home related. Mon, 18 Jul 2022 19:43:44 -0400 Sometimes being a risk taker is what we need to exit the comfort zone and start focusing on what we really are aspiring. Sometimes we become to accustom or complacent in our jobs or in our daily lives that we gets stuck. https://nowcomment.com/documents/316811?scroll_to=2849748 https://nowcomment.com/documents/316811?scroll_to=2849748 I can say the opposite of being a risker is having fear. The fear of moving on to something new or being rejected. But honestly both are better. Moving on to some thing new means you learn a set of new skills just about in every way such our personal skills, life skills, professional skills and academical skills. Being rejected can also be good because it means you took the risk, you tried and can be and impulse one may need to keep aspiring and try again. Risk taking is not failing it's learning to succeed and making you better to take even higher risks whether it is at a job or in school. Mon, 18 Jul 2022 19:10:32 -0400 More often than not we don't realize that most of the things we are currently learning can be applied with our past knowledge using it as a tool to enhance our learning. It is really easy to forget if we don't practice what we learn. https://nowcomment.com/documents/316811?scroll_to=2847932 https://nowcomment.com/documents/316811?scroll_to=2847932 The easiest way to have our past knowledge present is to apply it to new situations as best as we can to solve problems. This actually helps us build on skills and understand patterns that we may have not known before. Our past knowledge holds many answers to out present and future situations. Mon, 18 Jul 2022 21:41:08 -0400 Prior Knowledge https://nowcomment.com/documents/247448?scroll_to=2847924 https://nowcomment.com/documents/247448?scroll_to=2847924 https://youtu.be/4kfVV68MylU Mon, 11 Jul 2022 18:33:04 -0400 Applying past knowledge in our every day life. https://nowcomment.com/documents/247448?scroll_to=2847905 https://nowcomment.com/documents/247448?scroll_to=2847905 I couldn't agree more Rosie. All experiences are valid and those experiences become our prior knowledge which we then applied to later on when needed. This habit of mind correlates with everyone. I believe being flexible with our past knowledge gives us a great insight to the future. Mon, 11 Jul 2022 18:07:15 -0400 No doubt I feel this is where prior knowledge comes into play. Our experiences are what make us grow and learn from our previous mistakes making us evolve. Learning from experience is what we need. https://nowcomment.com/documents/247448?scroll_to=2847898 https://nowcomment.com/documents/247448?scroll_to=2847898 Every experience gives us the capacity to analyze what we have done and the opportunity to carry out a different outcome the next time. We learn from the challenges we must face. Mon, 11 Jul 2022 18:00:56 -0400 Empathy is what makes us human, and it allows us to relate to people. Having empathy and listening to other people's lives can be overwhelming. Therefore when psychologists listen to other people I agree they have an ability that not everyone does. https://nowcomment.com/documents/247448?scroll_to=2847878 https://nowcomment.com/documents/247448?scroll_to=2847878 It's a tough choice to carry one with other people's feelings. To see other's people's points of view and understand them. Mon, 11 Jul 2022 17:55:11 -0400 Two words I can summarize this with are resilience and grit. Having a problem in front of you and trying to solve it by looking at different angles. Sometimes after trying repetitively it can be irritating and feel pointless. https://nowcomment.com/documents/247448?scroll_to=2847865 https://nowcomment.com/documents/247448?scroll_to=2847865 There are times that it makes feel pointless but taking a step back to assess the problem and look at the big picture, it can give you the answer. Having a different plan for every time the other one doesn't work will make you efficacious. Being able to do this will also give you the ability to be comfortable taking on such problems. Fri, 15 Jul 2022 12:42:40 -0400 A 180, sometimes we misjudge people but what we don't realize is that sometimes it only takes one person to reach that person to truly change and make a difference. Having an open mind, resilience, connection and patience is what may be needed. https://nowcomment.com/documents/316811?scroll_to=2847199 https://nowcomment.com/documents/316811?scroll_to=2847199 To see your post and see that an inmate was actually able to turn his life around is amazing because not many inmates get the opportunity to redeem themselves and change. We all deserve second chances because we all learn as we go. We all make mistakes or bad choices and sometimes it may be due to the influence in our environment. However, we must be effective listeners first so everyone can be heard. Everyone deserves to be heard. Sat, 09 Jul 2022 14:40:49 -0400 There is nothing more beautiful than speaking t other people who have a different mindset or may share the same mindset but with different perspectives. Having conversations can deepen one's knowledge and shift your lens making your perspective more clear https://nowcomment.com/documents/316811?scroll_to=2847190 https://nowcomment.com/documents/316811?scroll_to=2847190 Mentors are wonderful because they are the ones that have the experience and are more knowledgable to guide you giving you extra confidence to achieve your goals and desires. Growth is inevitable so why not embrace feedback to keep growing and making that personal and academical change. Fri, 15 Jul 2022 12:42:40 -0400 Placing a picture of myself and a cover picture reminded me of the world and the beauty around it all and I was only able to stop and observe that because I had to choose an image. https://nowcomment.com/documents/316811?scroll_to=2847159 https://nowcomment.com/documents/316811?scroll_to=2847159 Sometimes we are so busy running around that we don't stop to take in the nature around us and assimilate our own accomplishments. So looking back at these two photos I can smile and say I have come this far. Although it's tough life is beautiful! Sat, 09 Jul 2022 12:51:46 -0400
