Marina wrote:"Questioning and Posing Problems to create their document and video on YouthVoices and YouTube"

I found this quote to be relevant to the teaching of mathematics while developing or teaching the Habits of Mind in the classroom. Marina demonstrated creativity in using the creation of video for the purpose of teaching students these skills. I provided her with a link to a video where students use questions trying to solve a problem. Marina's work provided the mean for me to plan and to connect "Questioning and Posing Problems" to the teaching of number operations in mathematics. I connected the Habit of Mind of questioning and posing problems to using the " wonder and notice" while teaching numerations.

The work produced while working on the Habits of Mind dispositions and the implementation with students in the classroom forced me to learn each of the sixteen skills.
While commenting on Marlen post I noticed that her work was on the implementation "Persisting" during her restorative circles in her class on Mondays and Fridays, She clearly presented the settings and steps on delivering the the activities. But I felt, that the problem of cellphones among others was a problem that many of the school teachers are facing today. I suggested her to watch a video on which the presenter demonstrates techniques and steps in conducting the restorative circles. The lesson was using these circles meetings to develop or enhance the skill of persisting and in the video and in the activities described in the letter of proposal.

Gathering Data Through All Senses

"Gathering Data Through All Senses" This is an integral part of learning because when a students view, hear and touch what is to be learning, the acquisition would be easier. This is aligned with the multimodal concept since it requires for visual, auditory, and kinesthetic sensory elements to be present in a piece of literature to have a better impact on the learner. I also see the implementation of the development of his HOM in the 3-K centers as they interact with the different foundation activities. In the 3-K centers each sense is developed including the gustatory and olfactory that can be taught during lunch time.

Habits of Mind for the school community works best: Teachers, Parents, and Students

The main objective of the innovative approaches are very clear when the author wrote: "Habits of Mind are dispositions people need to implement when confronted with problems and situations to which the answers are not immediately apparent" This implies that they are not just for teachers and students, they should be available for parents as well. Just like teachers dealing with students and parents, students dealing with the academic activities, and parents facing their children difficult challenges the Habits of Mind would be a great resource for all.
As educator of mostly minority students I have met families who need the school support in order to support their children education and by providing workshops to parents geared to the teaching of the different skills of the HOM, the complete school community will be involved in the new movement of teaching and learning these modalities. Together we can create a better population of learners.

Creating, Imagining, and Innovating "How to push the boundaries of your thinking"

Understanding the Habits of mind will make a great impact on the teaching style of any educator. For example the traditional way of teaching a mathematic lesson on number operations takes a different dimension when it taught or delivered by HOM trained educator in contract with a traditional educator. I remember writing on the board operations such as : 4+5 =. 6+9=, and os on. Today, after learning the approach "Creating, Imagining, and Innovating", I will use the "notice, and wonder"to illicit the students to be creative and imagine or to wonder about the task. Instead of giving them operational fact as shown previously, I will write two numbers on the board and ask them what do they wonder about the two digits without sharing their wonders aloud. Next, I will ask students what do they notice followed by an oral explanation. For example, if given the 4 and 5, some students may say that is 9, others, the answer is 20, or maybe one is even and the other is odd.
This is way to implement the Habits of Mind in mathematics. It is important that every answer should charted down on the board for the teacher and students to review each "notice" for correction or changes if necessary.

After watching each video and posting on the Scrapbook, I notice that each aspect of multimodal is to be used by a specific student. But as Baback demonstrated, all linguistic aspect must be included, text, visual, sound, spatial, etc. If we only view Teachernerdz, we tend to believe that we are going back to the cave age times when only sounds and visual images was the mean to tell story and to communicate. Great post Jennifer.

I am a teacher of a 3-K program students where they work on developing every skill needed to perform well in their future education or social life. After viewing the deferent ways other educators implement multimodal with their students, I decided to use "Scratch" in my class to. help students develop digital literacy using, visual, text, and sound and voice in their project. This is great tool for any student at any age because it includes option for any school subject as well as any modality required in the multimodal approach.

Multimodal pedagogy should be an optimal blend of explicit instruction and student exploration and experimentation and this sounds like differentiating instruction, materials, etc.

Multimodal instruction is a method I have used in my 3K setting, but I label it "differentiation." For example, when students use a tablet to create they own story and then retell, is a way to differentiate the process of creating and telling story. I have a concern of implementing multimodal because in my opinion, some students will rely on one method of communication and will neglect one, the written text. If we want to prepare students well, they must be able to read text for understanding instruction or information that would make them thinkers.

Recently, I read about the correct way to apply the CCL in the classroom and the skills needed for a student to applied and are very demanding. For example, in my 3-k program I let the children to use the blocks to crate what they please and I notice them getting angry when a tower they are constructing fall and the go back to erect the tower again, This is a sign of persisting in a task. I think that if the students knows some elements of the habits of mind, he/she would master the standard. Therefore, it will be a great deal if today teachers start using habits of mind to teach the children how have author control keeping in task and think clinically. The persisting in a task, thinking flexible, thinking about thinking, and striving for accuracy, and questioning and posing problem are skills a student must be able to use in solving mathematics problems.

During the descriptive review of the child, parents, teacher, counselor, psychologist, and any other concern school staff should be present, but teacher is the person trained to observe students behavior that can affect the school or classroom environment while the parents can provide the behavior of the child at home. The other parties may see the child not as frequently. The teacher is very valuable during section 2, describing the child.

Teaching a multicultural or diverse society or community makes interesting and it is challenging because of the qualities an effective educator must possess to meet the needs of the students and families. Imagine having a child arriving from a country where the language is not well known in the USA, or their culture is totally different, and where parents have different view of how to educate their child. This is very complicated, but we have to learn as many strategies as possible to meet these demands. Persistency, understanding, empathy, flexibility, and the other habits of mind must be present in the life of the educator to be effective.

But the "clip down" task where he has to record his action on a clipboard made me think how can a teacher trust a student to judge his own behavior.
The main challenge of parent being included in their children activities and the contribution to school activities is that many minorities parents are people who for one reason or another became parents when they were very young and never learn the function of being a parent in the society where they live. Few parents hold a different belief about school and teachers to the point that they do not believe in their children wearing uniform, waiting for turn to speak, or following school rules. The school tries every possible way to reach some parents and many times parent block the calls no to be reached. It is a difficult task to get some of these parents on board. Would the inclusion of the parent have any effect if the parents do not get involved. I worked in a school where there were many challenging students, and the % of parents presence at the parent's meeting was always very low.

The Descriptive Review of a Child Protocol" is a great tool to be implemented during meetings and especially in a one that includes creating a profile that covers the social, academic, and behavior of a child. Just imagine a child who behaves very well with some teachers, unacceptable with other teachers, and the parents feel the child is an outstanding students. Each party in the meeting will argue to create a child profile. This is very time consuming and this protocol will meet the needs of the presenter and facilitator.
