There is talk about her period and a lot of focus on the uterus. Later in the chapter, we find out the treatment is making her infertile, which the hospital did not warn her. We also find out the treatment is affecting her skin, so the doctors did a poor job of rotating between spots to avoid burns. This section is also a horrifying look that cancer treatment has on one's body. Yes, the person gets to keep their life, but the treatment is grueling and there are many many unanticipated side effects. There is also a lot of imagery of the treatment process. They describe what it is like into a decent amount of detail. She had an obsession with her nails, always polishing and then re-polishing. She is described to be very beautiful and we learn that she loves to play cards or bingo with her friends in her free time. She looses her child and has many of her friend keep an eye over her child. Her friends are completely unaware of her illness. She can go to the hospital without any of the knowing most of the time. Her treatment is successful and the tumor is nearly gone, however the hospital requires her continue radiation treatment to kill any remaining cancer cells. When she is required to go there every day, she must tell a few friends to keep a watch over her as she waits for Day to pick her up after the night shift. The chapter ends with her friends noticing the bed affects the treatment is having on her skin. She also finds out that the treatment is making her infertile. The hospital never told her as they knew she would refuse treatment if she knew that side effect.
