Badges - do they change the way we think about curriculum in learning spaces?

Right Jo! I agree. Understanding the philosophy of badging does reframe the conversation a bit. When designing playlists, my frame was around providing a different means of delivering learning and the badging was secondary to the curriculum.

Reframe the conversation

I appreciate the notion of reframing a conversation around how can we help versus how can we punish. Keeping in mind that people are constantly dealing with a lot that may be impacting them is helpful. Of course, we also need to think about how we portray ourselves too and how outside factors might impact our behavior, so we don't come off more harshly to someone that does not deserve that.

Let's be mindful of assumptions when interacting with others and reframe our conversations.

I appreciate the set up here as this begs the question of defining values for a specific culture. What is fairness? Defining beliefs is an important part of goal setting and exploring what we as a society value.

I appreciate this idea too. The idea of advocating for all people in all walks of life stands out to me as an important part of being human and fully engaged in contributing to the world.

I appreciate that this poem challenges the reader to think about owning and appreciating our time for whatever we want it for, instead of obligations.

I appreciate that this poem challenges readers to think about ways in which we might not "typically" or "normally" respond to others...that is, if we are used to saying yes.

To me this also speaks of the importance of recognizing that conversations and arguments are sometimes ongoing and we need to have background information and respect to enter them.

Two different perspectives

I find a lot of value when disagreeing. In this case, I recognize that the two groups had different opinions. When can we agree to disagree and when is compromise the right choice? I do think there are times when dispute and a resolution need to happen. I see that happening in this conversation.

Long-lasting feuds

I have never been in a feud with someone for years, but I often wonder what leads people to this point. We see it in various literature (we're reading Romeo and Juliet right now and the two lover's families hate one another and no one even knows why). Why do people feud for years? Is this just about being upset or real issues?

I do realize that this is more than a feud for this text. It makes me wonder, what topics need to be hashed out with disagreement over years. Here I wonder if it is religious law? I also recognize this as part of knowledge advancement such as in the TED talk referenced here: http://youthvoices.net/howdowedisagree
