I loved the gallery walk idea as well! We call it museum style in my room. I since little kids like to be engaged and a bit more interactive, I also add a second element. After they read someone’s work, they sign the back or give them a star.

I think kids would naturally be more invested. If there was a variety of ways they were responding. Different intelligences are being used. For instance, the artistic kids would enjoy the drawing/picture.

Vocabulary is just really hard to fun up! I think that by giving kids ownership on the words chosenthey are more invested. Another thought would be teaching vocabulary through great books. If the kids are invested in the story, they might be more invested

I have written fake samples and shared them with the kids. I always include some silly writing mistakes. The kids laugh when I read the samples. It is so powerful when I tell the kids that the mistakes I have made are mistakes that I have seen in their writing!

If students read to a partner, they can also ask if their partner has any questions. These questions can lead to adding important details.

I never thought to use the whisper phone in writing! I only use it in reading! Thanks for pointing out the obvious!

In early grades, we have a more basic plan. We use 1. Verbal plan 2. Write 3. Edit 4. Celebrate! Any thoughts on emergent writers?

Writing and explaining our math thinking is one of the main ways I challenge my higher learners in math! It’s hard to explain your thinking when you are7! And, it’s so valuable for the less advanced students to hear different ways of thinking!
