This sentence structure is compound-complex, which adds a lot of fluidity to this part of the chapter. It also changes the reading flow a lot because it is a bit easier to read because instead of having a lot of sentences with information and having it be choppy, there is just one sentence that has all the information that is needed.

Imagery/pathos

The author uses imagery to show how much pain Henrietta was actually in. This is kind of a hard section to read in the chapter because it makes you feel so bad for her because you can "see" and "feel" what she is going through just through the strong language. The use of pathos in this is also very stagnant. A lot is going on in this section of the book, so to have a clearer image of the exact pain she had experienced really makes us more interested as readers.

This is a good start to the story because it leaves us on the "edge of our seat"

This is a very interesting part of the story because it really foreshadows what is really going on with her. This foreshadowing really makes the reader intrigued with her story and also makes them feel for her as well. This appeals to pathos in the sense that we start to feel sorry for her and what is wrong with her.
