She’d made her way to the brightly lit back porch while lost in thought, took a moment to observe the Christmas lights twinkling along the edges of the roof, the freshly decorated tree in the window, the window clings of snowmen and reindeer.

Horrific in casual nature of the cruelty, but also, accurate to the child's way of thinking.
