A prime example is the Vietnam War. The war stories tell that, even though the United States have retreated, they find a way to make it a positive thing by saying that they have rescued and taken in many refugees into the country. In turn, the refugees are expected to be eternally grateful for this gesture even though they are struggling to make enough to support themselves. In the documentary about welfare for Southeast Asians in Brooklyn, NY, we learn that families has signed up for welfare to help them and to enroll in work programs to learn.
