This was the most intense moment of suspense. Would he make it? Would he be able to pull himself up? Would he strip the trim right off and fall to his death? These questions were intended to race through the mind of the reader. And they did. Of course, he did make it. Now he is on the window sill, waiting to get back in. His emotional reaction is acceptance. He accepts that this is a good idea, it would even be beneficial to his story, and his persona. He needed that paper for his project, it was important, it took a lot of time and effort to put together; this was his motivation for putting himself in a dangerous position.
