The author has taken to the guest, protecting him in a way. Since he likened his relationship to the guest as that of a brother, I find it as no surprise that the author would want to make certain that the guest is alright before pestering him.

I'm betting that the ice entrapping the ship is not common. Why would someone being pulled on a sled by dogs so far north be any more common? Is it their hope that land may be nearby, or did they assume that no one from south would be up this far north?

The men are looking forward, unwavering in their goal despite the many sheets of ice floating in the water around them. As evident by the sheets of ice, it is very cold. The men require several fur coats, and even then, their breath can be seen. Despite this, there is a warm summer breeze, although the warmness would likely still be colder than conditions back home in England. Even then, it would be a welcome reprieve from the bitter conditions.

Once upon a time, I decided to use a picture that was saved on my computer for an assignment. Unfortunately, I did not even think to check if I really owned the rights to the picture, being that it had been on my computer for years.

Turns out it was owned by another company, so my teacher accused me of cheating and plagiarism. Cheating because, that company just happens to own software that can automate the work I was doing, and plagiarism because I had used an image of theirs without their permission.

In the end, we got it sorted out that it was an unintentional accident on my part. It still scared me intensely; for awhile there I thought that my assignment was going to get a zero.

Plagiarism is very serious, and accidental plagiarism can cause a lot of doubt with your peers. So when in doubt, check and double check to make sure that if you are using something such as a picture, that if it is not in the public domain, CITE the source!

Paraphrasing and then citing your source is an effective method to prevent plagiarism.

Paraphrasing involves putting a source into your own words, maybe so you can express the idea in a way that will support what you are trying to express better. Properly cited paraphrases are not plagiarism.

Citing your source shows that you are credible, so readers are more apt to listen to what you have to say. It also shows that you have respect for the original author's work.
