I wonder if it was better when there was less communication. It probably forced people to talk face to face more. I feel like there are too many transition words in this essay, or too many phrases like "for example" that the reader trips over. It keeps the reader from seeing what the author is trying to say.

I agree, it is often stressed by teachers and textbooks to not end or start with sentences like "in conclusion" or "in this essay".

This paragraph is an example of a point by point essay. It talks about how many types of communication we have/had, then and now, with both the similarities and differences in one paragraph.

This is an example of a block essay. It is discussion the differences between crack and cocaine. Block style does not address the subjects by topic, but instead by differences and similarities.

I wonder if there is a better way to say this. When the author says that they threaten communities, it sounds like a disease or natural disaster that cannot be stopped, but in reality, using drugs is a personal choice.

Exactly, however the first step in fixing direct plagiarism is either putting it into quotations or putting it into your own words. Then, yes, you need to cite your source properly. I forgot to mention that part.

Citing yourself vs. citing someone else.

If you are citing yourself, you are referencing back to your own material, and citing your source, which is yourself. If you are citing someone else's work, you are referencing something that they wrote, not you. These two are very similar and basically the only difference s that one you are citing yourself and the other you are citing another person. Either way, you still have to cite your sources.

Direct Plagiarism Example

Direct plagiarism is when you copy something of someone else's into your own work. For example, if a student were running late on an assignment and hurrying, and decided they didn't have time to write the information in their own words, and instead they would just copy what they found online or in a book, they would be direct plagiarizing. This is one of the easiest types of plagiarism to catch in your own work. If you find that you've copied the same information in the same words as another person, its time to change it because you've been plagiarizing.

Yeah, I agree with you all. It would sound weird because you are trying to decide which one is better. If you just said they are different, then wrapped up with they are the same, I wouldn't make sense.

This is an essay written in the block style. Block style is where each topic is given separate paragraphs to tell about their pros and cons, then at the end in the conclusion the author decides which is better, instead of contrasting each point to each other at the same time, then telling the conclusion in the conclusion paragraph.

I feel like this sentence should be worded differently. Possibly:
"Many people enjoy vacations, and set aside time from work and school to take them." Do you think this flows a little better?

This is a point-by-point essay. The author gives the differences and similarities point-by-point, meaning he/she writes what the number of people in one house is, then what the number of people in the other house is, directly after, instead of giving each subject it's own paragraph.

Difference Between Ways To Avoid Plagiarism.

Two ways to avoid plagiarism are to first, cite your source, and second, cite your quote. This may seem like the same thing, but it is not. To cite your source of paraphrasing, you would use whatever format that your school uses and put it in the works cited section. Also, you may add a starter phrase before the paraphrasing. If you are citing a quote, you need to use quotations, and you also need to add where you found it, such as page number or paragraph.

You can accidentally commit plagiarism when you are taking notes from your sources, and say it is a website. You're taking notes, then you forget to put where that information was from, then you get rid of the tab and forget where you got it from. You mean to find out, but then you write it in to your assignment and forget its there, and therefore don't cite it.
