America was not ready for its 1st black president

Although America has not been ready for a black president due to the racial tension in America which still has not defused, having Barack Obama as POTUS did bring to light the racial divide still present within the country. Having a black president has helped to make the argument stronger of how much further we need to go as a nation that claims there is "equality and justice for all".

Foreign Affairs vs. Domestic Issues

I agree wholeheartedly with these claims. The United States is often involving itself in the affairs of foreign nations in the attempt to "assist those in need". Many times it helps those who face various forms of oppression and unjust violence. One only wonders why it is that the government eagerly jumps into the issues going on within other countries while not utilizing the same effort to help repair the societal issues and relations that occur domestically within America.

I enjoy the ways in which The Wire brings to light the corruption within police departments which is not usually placed in the spotlight in the media as heavily as gang activity is.

I enjoy this also! Simon allows his audience to understand the point of view of those whose lives are deeply rooted in illegal activity in order to survive within the hindering institutions surrounding them rather than depicting them as "evil" people which, unfortunately, is a common way that the media often depicts them to be.
