Interesting to see how he is sort of discrediting Buzzfeed after we talked about sources in class. Although, yes, Buzzfeed is not a reputable source for some types of research, it can be important in showing the voice of the masses and work as a timepiece

Newspaper is Thriving!

If anything, newspapers are doing extremely well nowadays. If I remember hearing this correctly there was talk about how CM Life is more successful than the TV and radio stations here at CMU. If anything, newspapers are the basis for a lot of news heard elsewhere. Journalism programs aren't dying soon and there is still demand for students wanting to participate in newswriting/newspapers. If anything, there is more news accessibility now because of newspapers diversifying how they present their content to physical and internet-based platforms.

Through College?

I can understand younger kids getting confused by online content but I would hope that most college students would be better at deciphering what is "true" for themselves. If anything, I think that college students are often better at figuring these things out than some adults because they were raised in an era of technology. There have been some occasions where I have to explain things to relatives of mine because they took something online literally or didn't read into it more than what was necessary to fully understand the concept. This can get concerning with things like the upcoming elections because people can put information out there and easily influence decisions without many having opinions about it. Also, there tends to be instances where people release biased media but don't necessarily disclose the bias which can influence readers who don't know it is essentially propaganda.

Classifying Readers is Weird

I feel weird thinking that there are different "levels" of readers. I understand that there are some ways in which some people can be better at reading that others but I don't like that there is classification perse about it that comes into factor for Stanford studies.

Especially with starting college I can relate to this. There are lots of people I wouldn't necessarily reach out to to "check up on" but would definitely not mind seeing them post about what they're up to.

I agree that these people could be persuaded by money. Even if the money isn't going to the teens themselves, parents can still have influence.

The end of the video claims that a full report can be found on the common sense website but unless there is a link to the exact study in the description it could be one of many possible options.

True. With things like these it would make sense that if the teens are being payed (or even their parents) they might not give the most genuine of answers. Usually there would be some sort of disclaimer but there isn't even anything at the the video's end

RESPONSE TO THE PERCENTAGES

This statistic contrasts with the video, which means that they are likely from differing surveys. Still, there is a 6% difference between the two. Maybe the video is going higher for shock factor?

By knowing this, teens can know they aren't alone in their online struggles. Adults can know their children likely do have people their age that they are talking to. Advertisers can know that there are many people with disposable income that are able to see their advertising, and phone companies can know there is a demand for devices for teens and market towards them/their parents.

This information is important to me personally in that I know a majority of my peers have and use cellular devices. This means that for my future I have to be tech savvy and able to communicate in this rapidly increasing technology-dependent society (41% in 2012 to 89% now). Technology is becoming more and more prevalent so it is important to plan accordingly.

I like that they give suggestions of how to not be as technology-addicted. Usually these type of articles just complain without giving suggestions so I can appreciate that.

I feel social media can be a contributor, but am hesitant in calling it a cause. I get that putting things on the internet opens you up to criticism but that's a risk you have to take and be aware of. It can be used to help you deal with future criticism.

Why 13-17. I know "teenagers" technically are 13-19, but why stop at 17 and not 18. Maybe because at 18 you are technically an adult whoops I think I just answered my own question but still.

Depends on what you're looking at. I tend to ignore comment sections and don't have enough people following me to receive many comments on posts I make so I tend to avoid these scenarios.

I agree, social media can be a way to communicate with friends. Typically though I prefer to text or call friends because of how limiting social media can be in sharing ideas/emotion. The only "social media" I use regularly with friends would be Snapchat.

When I was growing up Common Sense media was mostly used for looking at movie reviews for suggestions of whether or not I would be "allowed" to see a movie. I didn't know they did stuff other than that.
