Yes, I agree with you Eliza and your point about a sense or demand of urgency and mastery.

I feel as though these are results from expectations that we put on ourselves, from our administration and from our students. It seems that if we don't have these structures in place, then it may appear as if struggle with classroom management and require additional support. But in reality, it is a learning process and we need to give ourselves a break sometimes.

This sentence resonated with me because although I constantly strive to not become a "burnt out" teacher. I feel as though it can happen over time through challenging experiences, but when it does its important that we remember our values and the passions that went into us pursuing this career.

Strong connections amongst students and teachers provide an array of benefits within classrooms. For example, I've found that it can foster motivation and productivity as the students feel more invested with that particular teacher given their relationship.

As teachers, it feels as though we have the expectation that we will/must know how to respond to our any given situation. However, as our students change so should our instructional approach. Our students are diverse in terms of their funds of knowledge, academic and/or social emotional needs. With that, we need to be able to adapt with our students in order to be effective teachers.

Yes, I agree. Embracing bilinguals and creating a more flexible norm allows bilinguals to prosper both academically and socially and also exposes others to new languages and cultures.

This makes me question, what are the standards for speaking English less than very well. Who decides this? How is the standard formed?
