It does seem odd that the authors seem to analyze on those groups they see as positives, without explaining in depth the basis of the moral evaluation. I'm concerned about deviant and malicious groups. https://nowcomment.com/documents/132976?scroll_to=1534366 https://nowcomment.com/documents/132976?scroll_to=1534366 Wed, 25 Nov 2020 11:31:35 -0800 I see this happening now at an alarmingly increasing rate. Students are becoming generational siloed, and the socialization and enculturation gained by engaging with older generations is missing. https://nowcomment.com/documents/132976?scroll_to=1534344 https://nowcomment.com/documents/132976?scroll_to=1534344 I see this happening now at an alarmingly increasing rate. Students are becoming generational siloed, and the socialization and enculturation gained by engaging with older generations is missing. The students need the support and wisdom from older generations, but are generally isolated to online interactions with their peers. Some of this in inevitable when affinity groups are based on a new product technology or media, but intergenerational experiences should be fostered whenever possible. Tue, 24 Nov 2020 15:48:05 -0800 I think value is rarely recognized until one experiences a significant example of these groups' affects. I had no negativity to these groups, just an unfamiliarity, before reading this book. The case studies have given me a lens to see value in them. https://nowcomment.com/documents/132976?scroll_to=1534325 https://nowcomment.com/documents/132976?scroll_to=1534325 Mon, 02 Dec 2019 08:57:56 -0800 How do we intentional create social capital as educators without "substitituing" ourselves for the parental influences at home? Do we create complementary capital in our schools or resource the parents/commmunity for their increase in capital, or both? https://nowcomment.com/documents/132976?scroll_to=1534313 https://nowcomment.com/documents/132976?scroll_to=1534313 Fri, 26 Nov 2021 13:00:02 -0800 Isn't there a danger then of too formally connecting learning experiences ins schools to affinity groups? https://nowcomment.com/documents/132976?scroll_to=1534307 https://nowcomment.com/documents/132976?scroll_to=1534307 Isn't there a danger then of too formally connecting learning experiences ins schools to affinity groups? If we attach learning achievements to the learner's participation in affinity groups, aren't we undermining this central aspect of what these groups are? How do we strike a balance here? Mon, 02 Dec 2019 08:50:22 -0800 I've been noticing student's shifting media interests, hence "new media interests." It seems like there is a challenging balance to having such specific affinity groups, given inevitable changes in affinity. Maybe broader categories for affinity groups? https://nowcomment.com/documents/132976?scroll_to=1534290 https://nowcomment.com/documents/132976?scroll_to=1534290 Mon, 02 Dec 2019 08:43:51 -0800 Are you saying terror is a tricky tune as in it is hard to know how to dance to? https://nowcomment.com/documents/105201?scroll_to=1520004 https://nowcomment.com/documents/105201?scroll_to=1520004 Fri, 13 Nov 2020 06:57:09 -0800
