Three professionals I would include on my team to ensure the new student is able to access what he/she needs in the least restrictive environment.

The first is a Physical Therapists (PT) to help students maintain and improve muscle strength and flexibility, mobility, posture, and positioning. A Physical Therapist may also be involved in deciding the type of wheelchair or other equipment that will meet the new student’s needs.
The second professional would be the Nurse(N) to respond to any medical emergencies. If needed the nurse can clean the catheter, suction the tracheotomy tube, helping the child eat at lunch time, change the quadriplegic student’s position in his/her wheelchair during the day, minister medication
Finally, the third professional would be the Information Technician (IT) to help integrate technology into the classroom. To assist the new student with assistive technology according to his/her IEP to access the curriculum and achieve his/her short and long term goals, from large print books, and pencil grips to voice communication systems, computers, and text to speech and speech to text software and applications.

Describing Assistive technologies for Charlie

First, Charlie will need a motorized wheelchair so he can access the class. The teacher should make very sure there are not any obstacles in his way. Also, make sure the desks in the classroom are organized in a way that will accommodate his wheelchair. Furthermore, he may need to travel back and forth to the bathroom or to go outside for recess.
Second, Charlie will need a talking Calculator. A talking calculator has a built-in synthesizer for him to be able to verify the accuracy of keys pressed with his pointer and then spoken out loud. This can help Charlie confirm that the numbers and the operands he entered are correct. It will give him the answer to the math problem. It can provide him with basic mathematical calculations, scientific calculations, such as algebra, trigonometry, calculus, and graphing.
Third, Charlie will need a head pointer/mouth stick to assist him with the limited movement of his head and arms. He will be able to use it to type on the computer and navigate through a website and even paint. This assistive technology can expand Charlie’s horizon by allowing him to manipulate a pen, pencil, or paintbrush. Charlie can turn pages, play games, or use a touchscreen computer without any assistance.

Strategies I would use to structure a classroom and/or a lesson to ensure a student with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is successful.

First, I would use Priming to expose the students to course material before a lesson takes place and increase the likelihood for them to learn key concepts. I would build it into the student’s daily routine. I would inform the parents to let them prime the student for the lesson or test at home, as well, to relieve stress and anxiety.
Second, I would use the concept of academic modification to format the assignments to meet the specific needs of the students according to their IEP. The directions may be read out aloud or time may be extended on assignments. If the student has difficulty with word retrieval, I will present a word bank for them, or I will use multiple-choice questions.
Third, would be the use of Visual Support. Students with ASD benefit greatly from visually presented information, such as a visual schedule, task cards, travel cards, maps, labels, organizations systems, timelines, and scripts. I’ll provide study guides that highlight the main points of the lesson, highlight key parts of the text that tells the students when to stop reading and began working on comprehensive questions.
Self- management tools that will help students to stay focused and understand their behavior. Graphic organizers help students highlight important information. Social Scripts to help students understand what to say or how to act in situations.
Fourth, the use of reinforcements to reward students for behaving in ways that are productive and support their continuous personal growth. Some common reinforcers I would use are verbal praises, computer lab time, talk to your friends or engaging in competitive speech.
Finally, Home Base, a designated place for students with ASD can go to regain their control during the time of stress, they can go there to plan or review the day’s events, escape the stress of the classroom, and prevent a meltdown. A resource classroom or counselor’s office may be used as a home base. They can take their take assignments and work in a less stressful environment.

The steps I would take to ensure I'm providing services for students with speech and/or language needs

The first step I would take to ensure I’m providing all necessary services for students with speech and/or language disorders would be for them to receive services from general education teachers, special education teachers, and speech-language pathologists. The general education teacher will work with the speech-language pathologist to incorporate strategies to help the student master strategies in speech therapy. Corrective measures may be included, as well as, helping with speech and/or language exercises, and providing the student with immediate feedback if the speech-language pathologist is not present. The general education and the special education teacher will collaborate with the speech-language pathologist for interventions and teaching strategies.

Next, the assessments I would use for speech and/or language impaired students. 1). Screening for spoken language and/or skills would be conducted if a language and/or disorder is suspected. 2). Comprehensive assessment if student is found to having a speech and/or language impairment based on the screening result by the pathologist.

Finally, to develop speech and/or language skills, it would be a very good idea for the student with speech and/or language impairments to use augmentative or alternative communication (AAC). They will be able to use symbols, aids, strategies, and different techniques to enhance the communication process.

Behavior Interventions

Joshua should receive interventions, perhaps, in small group instructions for anger management, to help him stop using foul language and control his outbursts; and social interaction skills, to teach him how not to be disruptive in the classroom, cursing and hitting his classmates when he can’t have his way is not acceptable, nor introducing inappropriate topics into conversations with his classmates.
For Joshua to be successful in the classroom, there must be clear, concise directions and teacher/assistant proximity, for the teacher to monitor his behavior. The teacher can provide Joshua with the opportunity to have short breaks, prior to the beginning of class. Joshua can also benefit from the teacher quietly reminding him of the expectation of giving his best effort in class. These are little extra intermediate things to throw in to assist in helping Joshua to succeed.
Joshua’s’ interventions should be monitored by direct observation: daily behavior sheet. When he has positive consequences: he will get verbal praise/immediate feedback/treats. Negative consequences: loss of privileges.

Audell is working hard to reach his goal of obtaining a basketball scholarship. He has a great support system in place.

Three Strengths
Audell’s confident he will succeed and is comfortable advocating for himself.
Audell’s determination to reach his goals, by creating a strong support system to make his dreams come true.
Audell’s dedication of being on the high school basketball team and going to college on a basketball scholarship.

His two target areas of specific interventions- Audell’s coach, making sure he takes the right courses to graduate.
Most of all, Audell’s mother being there for him, helping him with homework, editing his written assignments, advocating for him at IEP meetings and encouraging him to pursue his dreams of attending a Division II college.

Identifying 4 things to establish enhanced communication, cooperation, and collaboration with my students' general education teachers.

First, to enhance communication, cooperation, and collaboration, I will give the general education teacher a letter of introduction, establishing myself as a point of contact and special education expert for my students.
Next, as a Special Education teacher, I will need to communicate my student’s IEP goals, behavior management plan and specific learning disabilities with reading. To enhance collaboration, I will create a document with my student’s accommodations and IEP goals, to ensure the general education teacher is receiving appropriate instructions.
Then, I will provide the general education teacher with a belief survey. It can help us share and communicate beliefs regarding lesson plans, instructions, assessments, parent communication, homework, and other important issues.
Finally, Collaborative planning is essential to lessons plans and assessments. I will find common planning time with the general education teacher. I will be creative in building a collaborative and respectful association with the general education teacher. Working together establishes a set of shared and negotiated norms.

It’s vital to foster a positive educational atmosphere for Stephanie. The teacher and Stephanie’s parents must communicate.

One way for them to communicate is on over the phone. The teacher and parents can discuss how she’s getting along in her 9-week trial period. Maybe set aside 15 to 20 minutes each week for a friendly update.
Face to Face would significantly foster trust Stephanie improve in a specific academic area. This will allow the parents to see the sincerity in the teacher gestures, in his/her demeanor, voice, and eyes.
Email is a popular and easy way to stay in touch with the parent.

In the case of Mills V. Board of Education of District of Columbia, there was a lawsuit filed against the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.

Educational opportunities were denied to children because they were considered to be “exceptional”, which include mental retardation, emotional disturbed, physically handicapped, hyperactive and other behavioral issues children may have. The board of education did not provide schooling for these children, which violated their own board regulation. The board said it would cost millions of dollars to accommodate all the exceptional child. The courts disagreed failed to provide due process hearings and periodic reviews of each exceptional student case.
