Some people don't even get trials and are sent straight to prison. People are deterred from committing crimes because of how harsh our criminal justice system is. In the video we learn that America was the highest mass incarceration rate in the world. We also learn that people with a felony can't get hired to a lot of places, can't get food stamps, can't get public housing, and etc. This shows how America uses punishment and fear to deal with crime.
