The first paragraphs talk of the confusion of the two products, Coca-Cola and a book. Then the next paragraphs go into the history of their companies.

Mr. Seaver is promoting the book and assures that it deserves the slogan "It's the real thing." His letter is full of sarcasm and big-headed-ness. This gives humor for the reader, but his audience, Mr. Herbert, is most likely not amused.

The closing is sort of passive-aggressive and trying to mimic the formality in Mr. Herbert's letter. It shows that he is serious in the fact that they will keep using the slogan.

Malala is giving a sense of urgency that children are waiting for the reader to take action and make a change. A lot of the speech's audience is educated, so to think that a child is not given the same opportunity makes the reader have some sympathy and want to help.

Malala is using a response from a fellow student of hers to back up her own claim that the Taliban (and possibly other terrorists too) are afraid of the power of education. She's showing her reader that this educated child has learned to go against what the terrorists want. The Taliban's beliefs are not among the religions of peace and love because those religions believe in education.

The Queen is complimenting her audience for all they've done to help overcome this. She does this to show emotion and care for her people, making the speech more personal.

The Queen acknowledges the fact that it's everyone's duty in this situation to take part the best ways they can: whether that is the care and essential workers on the front lines or the families at home refraining from spreading the disease. By this, she is joining everyone together for a sense of unity and stating that everyone is dealing with this difficulty in their own way. This is comforting to the audience (Britons).

With Nelson Mandela being African, he doesn't actually know if this will be "revolutionary," but he is specifically talking to whites and trying to empathize (maybe not seriously) with them.

Ethos (as well as pathos)

The fact that Mandela did his research about the specific diseases and is African gives him credibility. It also shows that he is well educated (no hyphen ;) and therefore affirms that this whole speech is well written. The purpose of this paragraph is to show cold, hard facts that also tug at heartstrings, and that's highly persuasive.

Patterns, purpose: Arthur repeats "unskilled" to show the low status of these laborers (native population) and how they are controlled by these white Europeans, who only act to benefit themselves.

Syntax, pathos:

Every other paragraph starts with "it was permissible," but this one is showing the effects of those actions from the other paragraphs. This whole paragraph really tugs on your emotions because of the adjectives like "violence" and "savagery." And as Arthur argues, this is because of the lack of order in the society.

Arthur uses "we" instead of "they," blaming this on himself along with the whole of the group. He's showing his credibility by relating himself and taking fault.
