During which period does James need to go to bathroom the most? Perhaps if one were to observe the time and setting in which James needs to use the bathroom and tally it up, one can figure out a correlation to the studies being taught and the amount of times James leaves to the bathroom. Maybe James does this as a way to escape from doing something or learning about a subject he does not like or is not good at. Using the bathroom gives him the excuse to not participate and buys him time to avoid doing so.

This makes sense to me because I too have anxiety when forced to speak in front of a large group of people. However, I am able to speak better if it in smaller groups. Tiffany may feel pressured with so many people watching her, and her stuttering clearly effects her ability to perform/speak.

Some questions to think about is how to present this information in an outlet that will make it easier for Steven to grasp, and what modalities he may be struggling with.

This is very similar to the video that my previous job created and utilized to inform our students about the coronavirus. Working at a child care center, when all in person learning became remote, our team had to brainstorm on how to keep students engaged and learn about what was happening around them. Our wonderful Puppetry instructor, Andy Gaukel, created a puppetry video to showcase to our students. A link is provided below:

Yes Juanita! I agree with your comments on how beneficial visuals can be as instructional tools when teaching various content. Visuals help students with different learning styles gain knowledge through the outlet they learn best through which in this case could be visually or auditory.

Another outlet to teach about viruses and germs and the importance of hygiene could be through hands-on demonstrations such as seen in the youtube link I provided below:

I agree with your comments Lu, I think this article is geared for the higher grade levels, but packed with visuals to aid students to visually see how viruses work within the human body system. This could count as a reference in a lesson plan that gears towards learning about the human body, the immune system, and how everything works.

I think organizations continue to change their tune or rules because they are rolling with the punches so to speak. They are also in the dark and trying their best to equip others on how to proceed in the world even with the little knowledge they have.

This reminds me of what is currently going on with school reopening and the safety procedures that must be met before kids can start going back to in person learning. While this may seem annoying to many parents and leave teachers frustrated at how to proceed with their mode of instructional learning, it is best to remember that everyone is trying their best to accommodate everything at such a short span of time.

Students like EJ, the child I wrote a descriptive review about, loves using his iPad and reading Graphic novels, so this would be a great outlet to use to get him interested and informed about what this virus is and how he can protect himself by using daily hygiene.

This reminds me of the 5 E's model I learned in my summer EDE 717 Science methodologies class.

One way in which teachers can teach students inquiry based skills is through the 5 E's model. Lesson plans can be structured through phases of Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate and Evaluate. Once students are able to elaborate on their understanding, they can apply what they've learned to new situations. This deepens their learning and their skills.

How to make education more digital?

I believe, especially in this age now and this pandemic, the most important question to think about is how we can make education more digitally relevant. This is one of the "BURNING QUESTIONS" I had brainstormed and am grateful to see it being asked by other people as well!. Engaging young people is also an important factor in getting them to connect to the content that is being taught, but one that needs to be reviewed even more so now that most of their learning is now done remotely.
Children are meant to explore and move around, so keeping their interests long enough for them to sit down and be engaged digitally for extended periods is a challenge. One of my focus as a future teacher would be how to transcribe curriculum to be multimodal and incorporate the many strands of media. As Ernest Morrell said, students have fun exploring and using different technologies. That is why it is important that we have to take them seriously and pay attention to them and what they have to offer.

As Lesley commented, being comfortable is a significant component for schooling. Since student is observed to interact with this one peer, it could mean that she feels comfortable enough to be herself around him and show her true personality.

Lesley, I agree with you in that medication can have side effects that may alter student's mood, especially in a young child. One side effect could definitely cause the student to seem 'calm'. According to the varying dosages used, they could be heavily sedated.

I agree with you Juanita that one problem could be in the different ways they assessing their students. One suggestion could be to ask the teacher what their methods of assessing are and explaining your reasons for the way you assessed.

Perhaps they are alluding to all the other staff members that students interact with briefly throughout the day. For example, the lunch lady or when they are transitioning to other classrooms and there is an interaction with the gym or art or music teacher. Sometimes there are staff members who come into the classroom and visit. During these brief encounters, were it to happen a few times, there may be behavior that is reasonable to be noted and not dismissed.

I agree with you Jonathan. Figuring out what learning objectives coincide with your lesson plans is something that requires practice. One technique that was recently supplied during my summer course is to work backwards - end with the learning objectives after going through your lesson plan.

Learning Goals (objectives) are skills or standards that are measurable and the basis of your lesson plan. These goals are the key takeaways teachers want students to learn as part of the content they are teaching. Basically, it is the main reason for the crafting and implementation of your lesson plan.
