I think this is saying that your openness to teaching and who you are will drive you.

as a paraprofessional i have seen the teachers around me, i have been given great advice and bad advice. after all i have learned and seen, i push myself to take on this work because i felt i wanted to be that change i needed to see. it wasn't what other told me but rather what i felt in my heart that was a part of the kind of person i am.

I agree, getting to know your students and being vulnerable to who you are and who they are can be the bridge to them reaching the learning that takes place.

The strategy may be available to your students and you may be able to perfect it well but if you don't have their hearts, you will not reach them.

This is very taught provoking because I have seen and experienced that if a student does not connect well with you or does not feel a sense of vulnerability or compassion, then teaching them will be difficult. As a teacher you constantly put yourself out there to reassure your students you are in it with them and not just teaching at them but collaborating for success together.

It cannot be on the basis of technique.

I am not sure if it can be taught but i do think that teaching must go beyond technic and smarts. There is a level of passion, commitment and integrity that must be aligned to what you believe teaching is.

The training, time and knowledge is there but nothing truly prepares you for what you will take on.

This resonates because as a teachers strive to reach there students, studies, researches a lot, takes on professional developments, and is all around well rounded in the expectations, you still feel this sense of urgency and mastery when walking into a room. There are good and bad days. Days do happen where you have to realize it didn't go as planned and you must revisit the drawing board like its the very first time. Every class and every student is different and have different needs. its new more often then not.

Flustered or frustrated, feeling a sense of burn out when doing the work of a teacher for a long time.

I was empathetic to this because quit often the experience around me is this. Teachers who have been doing this for a long time are burnt out.
