All the while throwing random women with no development into the plot to make a point of how they are straight, even if the characters have less chemistry with them than they do with their fellow male characters.

This is supported by the fact that instead of mentioning more historical events/quotes, he instead uses a quote from a saint of his church, which is far more personal. He also seems to shift to directly talking to those who did not support him by pledging his loyalty to them and telling them to remember their responsibilities as Americans, be wary of those who feed them lies in order to gain power, and not to retreat into echo chambers.

Orwell is predicting here that we will start narrowing down our language in order to limit the possibility of insurrection. By not giving people access to words that they can use to rebel, to express emotions and nuance, words that can become their rallying cry, the party is cutting off the flow of free thought. Because if the next generation doesn't know what those dangerous words are, they can't effectively communicate and coordinate with each other.

This article proposed that when sharing these stories, they can be used to highlight problems within our social/government organizations rather than focusing purely on the gore/violence.

The actual system was not mentioned in the last article, but I think that it is interesting that it is brought up in this one. The legal system plays a huge part in this in terms of whether or not the perp. gets sentenced for the crimes they may have committed. It brings an end to not only the story, but brings a bit more closure/justice for the victims and/or their families. But if someone is wrongly convicted, then the system becomes part of the problem. It can push people to look more critically at sentencing, which was definitely not something that was touched upon in the other article.

One of the ideas that the author discusses is how this kind of media could be used to help people. In Why is true crime bad for society and my post, mental illness is brought up in relation to the perpetrator rather than the viewer and how it is possible to not address it well. in this case, Bethany Knickerbocker makes the point that finding out about the worst possible scenario gives people a sense of control and exposure in case something along those lines ever happens to them.

They make the claim of fact that smartphones have changed every aspect of teens' lives and support it by providing evidence in paragraph 4 (the abrupt shifts in teen behavior/emotional states), and paragraph 9 (how they are physically safer than previous generations because they are less likely to drink or drive as much). They later go on to provide specific data on how it has affected their emotional states as well (Paragraph 27 and 28). While I do believe that this claim has warrant, the way that they are framing it makes it feel overly negative and tends to brush over the positive of being more connected. They state that we are safer than before but then berate us for being sadder.
