Up through this point, and especially in this range, Cain makes sure to keep eye contact with her audience, keeping them engaged in her thoughts, ideas, and speaking. In this specific segment, Cain discusses well-known, important people and looks around the audience, as if she is looking for someone to know who they are and raise a hand.

This piece is a representation of a change or evolution within sister Corita Kent's life. She transitioned from bright, bold pieces about world issues, to pastel, light pieces, with little reference to the outside world or troubling issues.

The change in art style depicts the change in Corita's life, having been allowed to express her creative capability with no restrictions, to being told to renounce her vows. Which ended up taking a large tole on Corita's life and livelihood,as she became more introverted and stuck to her own world and thoughts.

The ability to find humor within life not only benefits an individuals mental health but also seems to have positive benefits on ones physical health as well. Personally, I feel that by finding humor in life one can also find comfort in situations that may be uncomfortable to not only make oneself feel better, but also make others feel safe and also find comfort within another.

However Mr.Harris giving the boy a fan has slightly improved this boy and his family's life with his gracious act.

A reference to the title of this piece, within this paragraph David Sedaris is gathered with his fellow French students outside of their classroom discussing their fear of speaking French now due to their teacher. As Sedaris and his classmates complain of the stress and fear of speaking this teacher has caused them, they all come together to state that the more time they practice and continue to work at learning the language the more confident and less ashamed they will be to actually talk in the new language. This goes to show how even though this French teacher seems rude and disrespectful, she has inspired her students to want to learn in spite of her.

In the beginning of hist talk Malcolm London offers a quote concerning his high school life stating, "a building dedicated to building that only breaks me down." This statement then leads to the rest of London's talk discussing how the American education system is a "training ground" for our future. However, according to London, this is not a future of education, instead it is a future of judgements towards others and how others are valued based on title. London mentions the value of the education system for students, how it has failed multiple individuals, and the need for change in order for all students to have a training ground that will teach them correctly.

I agree Lindsey, I recall back in late 2019 and early 2020 as the new year began how many American, including myself, saw the spread of this new virus in China as something to not be worried about. I remember checking social media and noticing multiple people joking about this situation that,at the time, did not seem dire in any way. Looking back from today, this virus has come to affect every person's life in some way.

The Blame on China

I agree, China took great measures to control and minimize the spread of COVID. However in the process of attempting to keep their country safe, they were blamed and put at fault for a pandemic in which they did their best to control a situation that could not have been handled by one country alone.

This image represents how blissfully unaware most Americans were at the beginning of the new year, unaware of the pandemic and struggle yet to come. In this moment there was only worry for the results of the game, and no thinking of the future.

Barry's father and schizophrenia

I too agree that Barry's father seems to have emotionally damaged Barry possibly in his childhood and continued through his adulthood. From the golf scene it is quite clear that Barry's dad has noticed Barry dealing with his schizophrenia for years and is finally fed up. In most situations similar to this one, a loving parent would take time with their child to show their appreciation and caring for them, however Barry's father is tired of seeing his son struggle with ordinary things due to his mental illness and instead, forcefully takes control of this situation so his son will not disappoint him again.

I agree that this scene is presented as to "humanize" Lucien and make the audience realize that, he too, is a living human being that is able to form his own thoughts and ideas. This scene gives an insight to how Lucien may feel he appears to others to how he actually appears, as Lucien is a living, breathing person, like everyone else, however he is limited in his life by his mental capacity

This line shows how the innerworkings of our mind are constantly at battle. The "fight" between the owl, the sensible, and thoughtful part of our brain, is fighting the chimp, the part of our brain that takes action rather then thinking. These two fighting companions describe the choices we have during stressful situations, to freak out, or take control.
