Hopkins claimed that they never made money off of the Hela Line, which may be true, but others sure did. Today, there are more than 17,000 patents related to HeLa cells, and many companies sell vials of HeLa for big money. Invitrogen, a biotech company, sells them for as high as $10,000. Henrietta's family felt swindled, but they didn't know what to do about it.
