In this chapter, the author finally meets Sonny. But Sonny immediately takes her to Lawrence's house. At first, Lawrence is apprehensive to talk about Henrietta, but eventually he opens up and the author becomes the first to explain to Lawrence what his mother's cells really did. After that, Sonny comes back to Lawrence's house and brings Day with him. As well as Sonny, Day, and Lawrence, Lawrence's wife Bobbette is also introduced. Day and Lawrence don't talk about Henrietta's life much, but the whole group ends up having a discussion about the treatment of African Americans by John Hopkins. At the time it was common to fear being kidnapped by the hospital and taken in to be experimented on. This dialogue was a majority of the author's visit. They all agree that Henrietta's cells were taken without her permission and the doctors never told her or her family anything, and those doctors also made millions on Henrietta's cell.

In this chapter, Henrietta returns to her everyday life. She spent most of her day cooking for Day and the children and taking care of the children as well. On nights that her husband Day worked, her and Sadie often snuck out to go dancing. They would go the dance floors at Adams Bar and Twin Pines. According to Sadie, they had a really good time doing this and both would really get into it on the dance floor. Henrietta was a people person, most everyone liked her, other than the wife of their cousin, Ethel. Ethel's husband Galen was apparently obsessed with Henrietta and would always follow her around. Because of this, Ethel wasn't too keen to be around Henrietta.

At a certain point, Henrietta's daughter Elsie was getting increasingly hard to take care of, especially with two other little ones to care for as well. So Henrietta sent Elsie away to Crownsville State Hospital. This really hurt Henrietta, but she always made sure to visit Elsie at least once a week. For a long time, no one knew Henrietta was sick. At that point in the radium treatments, doctors believed she was going to recover and would also be cancer free. She had to continue getting radiation treatments every day for a month. Near the end of her treatments, the doctor informed Henrietta that an effect of these treatments in infertility. Henrietta was angry about this, because she wouldn't have done the treatments if she knew this was true. Henrietta had basically been burnt by this radiation, leaving lasting effects on Henrietta.
