"Everything can be a source of inspiration"

Sister Corita Kent firmly believed in everything being a source of inspiration, even sources in unlikely places. She was said to take her students on field trips to a shopping mall and look at the window displays, or to a random store to find the inspiration.

The image below is a piece of art created by Sister Corita, and this goes to show how she took an ordinary item, and turned it into art. She took the idea of enriched bread, and created that into her artwork.

At this point in the video, there has been numerous comments from fellow students and comrades of Sister Corita, that speak of her optimistic mindset. She was said to have "...brought joy to all she did", "...she was the spirit of the college", and "...seemed to see the best in people." The impact of Sister Corita's attitude stayed with all of her students and had a lasting impact on them and her own legacy.

I believe as students, we have all experienced some form of writing down any answer to get an assignment done. Whether it may be writing down a condensed, sloppy answer, to a completely incorrect one, sometimes we can be so exhausted or tired we just do it to get the assignment done.

Harris expresses his opinions in helping low-income schools after the pandemic. He states, "...there should not be any excuses to invest in low-income schools." He makes it plain and clear that once the pandemic is over, low-income schools need to be supported more and get the care they so desperately need.

She states that she sees a rainbow as "seeing over a circumstance, or a situation, in the world that you are in." She then goes on to say she sees it as, "an overarching circumstance where you have the mentality to know all possibilities in the point of view or perspective you're in." She is using a rainbow in this poem to show how one can be "above" a conflict and look at it from different point of views.

London states the phrase, "I open the doors to a building dedicated to building, yet only breaks me down." This phrase resonates with so many students today. Students all come to school to learn, yet in return end up lost and broken. He goes on to state later, "Homework is stressful" and once you go home, "Your home is work." Students are constantly stressed out with the work they are given, and go home to continue to "work". They are attempting to process the new information learned, while trying to succeed socially as well. This is the reason this phrase has such an impact, because London brought to light what almost all students are feeling and currently struggling with.

The Freedom Gained from a New Vocabulary

In this essay by Malcolm X, the idea of the freedom gained through learning new vocabulary is presented through his story of him teaching himself to become more literate during his imprisonment. This idea especially comes to light in paragraph 14, when he states, he could for the first time pick up a book and read and understand what it was saying, and, “Anyone who has read a great deal can imagine the new world that opened.” He is leaving us with the impression that his new vocabulary has opened up a new world for him. He also supports this idea by stating at the end of his essay, “...months passed without my even thinking about being imprisoned. In fact, up to then, I had never been so truly free in my life.” Malcolm is giving voice to the idea of the new freedom he has gained through his new vocabulary, though he is imprisoned.

This picture is so powerful and a great depiction of 2020. Though this is not in America, it shows how much the world has been impacted by this wretched year. How broken it has left economies and how hospitals are becoming overcapacity.

The "Rat's" Memorial

The Boys finally caught and killed the rat and were getting ready to flush him when Arnold states "Somebody ought to say something." This was a big part in the movie showing the sympathy of the Boys. Lucien's response is the most moving though, by saying, "God, here comes the rat." Though it may not sound like a thoughtful response, this shows Lucien's compassion for other creatures and his hope for the rat to be heaven once they flush it. It shows a glimpse of his optimism and sympathetic side by him giving his eulogy to the rat.

I agree. In this scene Barry took a sympathetic approach to encourage Arnold to take his groceries back. By stating, "Anyone who can flush a rat, can do just about anything" Barry is giving Arnold the push he need to have the courage to return his groceries.
