Susan Cain brings life to the TED Talk while she is speaking of her grandfather. She speaks with life and happiness about her grandfather. She speaks of his belongings and passions. Life is filled within her voice. She quotes "But he also loved his congregation (Cain, Susan)."

"So now I would like to share with you what is in my suitcase today (Cain, Susan)." Susan brings life to this moment as she is about to present what she has in her suitcase. This can intrigue the audience to be present and pay attention for what is to come.

As Susan continues through her TED talk, she begins to speak of psychology. She quotes "It turns out" with an emphasis. I do not mean relating to her voice, but the notice to the life she is presenting here. She speaks life and intrigued me (and probably the crowd) to listen to what she is about to say about the psychology.

Susan Cain speaks of her husband and laughs at how he is an extrovert, but she still loves him. She brings life to this moment through the personal connection to the crowd. I feel as though people in the crowd can relate to her and feel the life she is bringing to the light.

Susan begins to speak of the chant they would sing at camp. Instead of stating what the chant was she brought it to life by speaking it. By way of this the audience could almost feel and envision as if they were with her. She sings the chant "R-O-W-D-I-E that's the way we spell rowdie." She is able to grab the audiences attention through bringing life to this moment.

Throughout my life I have had many leaders. Typically the leaders I encounter present themselves to be people who not only work hard for themselves but also ensure those around her are working hard too. Corita is a person who could summon one to be successful just from her energy and motivation given to others. It is unique when one can do this and lead others along with themselves.

From this description the listener can envision Corita to be a perfect person. She seems like a remarkable person, well deserving of an A+ person.

This particular person is upset that she did not stop and enlighten them on her business. I feel as though this still stands true to this day. People do not like privacy, and everyone wants to be in the know of everyone's personal life. There is a fine line between caring about someone's life, and snooting into it.

Reaching for Opportunity of Understanding

In a high school classroom there are many situations where a direction or strategy is given through coursework. For example in my math class experiences, I have found that the more impulsive people are quick to give up when given a hard equation. However, the more effective people who are aware of the Habits of Mind take more time to understand the directions and find a way to figure out the problem. I feel as though this taps into being impulsive for if one is not willing to instantly understand and have their "gratification" then how will they make any other valuable decisions in life. Sometimes it takes a little longer to figure something out. This is okay, for it will only benefit us an give us more understanding of issues.

Self-discipline

Self-discipline roots from impulsivity. A person who is impulsive, says impulsive remarks, or performs action impulsively, has a low self-discipline most of the time. There is a difference between a person who lives life on the edge vs. someone who is impulsive. I like to say I am someone who lives life on the edge. However, that does not mean I am not making smart decisions as I am still very aware of my grades, work, priorities, but also still trying to find a sense of adventure and creating a fun life. It is fully convincing that those who are impulsive have a lower IQ or grades that suffer. Self-discipline is important and one should always think of their actions before making a decision.

Impulsivity is a trait which comes from some people who may not be aware of the Habits of Mind. Thinking before acting is very crucial. For example if one is having a conversation, it is important to review the tone and message you want to send across before doing it. For if one impulsively says something it may portray to the wrong audience and be taken in an unintended way. As humans, with sensitive feelings, we should have an action plan or a goal before almost and activity whether that is a conversation, action, etc.

As the introduction of Habits of Mind continues, the author begins to open up about the perhaps the comparison of listening intently vs not intently. As he quotes about what happens when we listen intently, I fully agree with Costa. I have noticed within my own life and experiences that if I say something to someone then they have a different response when listening intently or not. If we are listening intently we can open up to these habits of mind more and be able to respond in the most effect way. Listening intently is very important for effective communication.

"Add to the list of 16"

As the Arthur L. Costa explains the initial data to this list began in 1991. At the time the list was minimal, at only 12 habits of mind. However, as a society we have grown and found new possibilities and expanded this list to 16. I feel as though the Habits of Mind list can be continued as we continue studying and abiding by the current terms on the list. We may be able to find truth in one habit of mind to lead to a new discovery. In order to keep advancing, we must be optimistic to new advances and new opportunity of growth for the future of Habits of Mind. I feel as though my class should come together with the common goal to present one, or possibly two, new Habits of Mind to add to the list.

"What intelligent people do when they are confronted with problems"

I feel as though whether one is intelligent or not there can improvements on the way one reacts to a problem or situation. We all face problems in life. How we respond to those problems is what will closely define our character and the type of person we are. One does not have to be intelligent to respond in a respectful manner to an issue. It is very important although, for all people to understand and study these habits of mind. For we can all advance alongside one another and become more mindful and educated people.

In this line the little girl tells her father how she wants to give up after her state testing. These feelings are very common to have after a big stressful test. In Indiana we have the test known as ISTEP. How is the state testing beneficial to students. If we do not pass we cannot graduate. A student with all A’s and a 4.0 GPA could fail the ISTEP and not be able to then graduate. How is this fair to students? I relate to the little girl’s feelings.
The quote "and on the first day of class I arrived early, watching as the returning students greeted one another in the school lobby." David speaks that he watched the others around him greet each other. However, he did not know anyone. This can be a moment of fear for him. I can personally connect to this situation. When I was in the fourth grade I moved to a school in northern Indiana for 6 months. On my first day of school I was very nervous. I did not know anyone around me. But everyone around me knew each other. For me this was a haunting moment, which reading this piece brought back that feeling as a scared 10 year old. Thankfully someone reached out to me and invited me to join them for lunch. It is good to be kind to others, even if you may not know them. I will never forget that moment.

Avery, I agree with you. Along with the people who sometimes bully others there are also the so called "class clowns". By class clowns I mean the people who are loud and try to crack jokes, go beyond the teacher, just to get some attention and laughs from peers around them. I feel that sometimes these people are in "camouflage" as they are seeking the attention which they may not get from their home life. They may do something in the wrong to get some satisfaction of attention from others. I feel many people act out because of their home problems, honestly it is quite obvious in the school system.

Throughout the pandemic I feel that for every student all across America assignments have became more about finishing than learning. Homework used to be about expanding and gaining on knowledge we have learned. However, for me an assignment these days are about getting it submitted before the deadline. The deadline is what matters and it is not as much about learning the material anymore. This school year we are all just trying to survive, and as Malcolm says when we go home, we don't want to pick up any assignments. For me sometimes home can be chaos and nothing but other busy activities. On some nights the last thing I want to do is pick up my assignments. I agree with Malcolm's statement.

This quote represents the true meaning behind family. Although it is about love, it is much more than just love, "but letting others know there's someone who is watching out for them." I feel that sometimes there is a misconception with this. For example there is so much security in the feeling of perhaps having a bad day at school or work, but going home and having the support from home. Family is so much more important than love. Family is support and care, which in human nature, this is what we want and desire.

All families have issues and problems but at the end of the day we must love our family. If we don't who may we have to love? As it is quoted "Love each other or perish." Sometimes it does more damage to leave words unspoken or diminish a family relationship, it parishes. Typically it is best to love each other.

Aside from the democratic and republican political point of view, I feel that we should observe the meaning behind the phrase "Keep America Great". Yes, everyday things are changing around us. This is inevitable, change is coming our way whether we agree or disagree with what is to come. How can we keep America running smooth, or keep this a great place to be? How can we help our neighbors out? Or just make sure everyone is doing okay during this uncertain time. I believe anything could help and this is something we as citizens should be more mindful of, even if it is just a simple gesture sometimes.

Who would have thought we would recollect our memories of the time there was a crowded event, such as basketball game, or the New Years Eve gathering in New York City. The panic is definitely there, and I hope one day that is able to go away. It is often difficult to wrap our heads around what used to be "normal" and how we may have taken that for granted. Or to even be able to shake the feeling of having a mask covering our mouths and noses everywhere we go, like it is something we cannot live without...

I believe this a phenomenal accomplishment for someone such as Maya Gabeira to have. The biggest wave “ever” ridden by a woman, let alone the biggest wave surfed by *anyone* during the 2019-2020 winter season. I believe it is also an accomplishment for this to be a first for women in professional surfing. I love seeing women be able to hold such high standards in such rigorous sports, such as surfing. Although this is an amazing accomplishment, this makes me wonder how much Maya was able to be celebrated through her accomplishment, considering this occurred during the uprising of the coronavirus. I believe there are many other accomplishments which could not be given the deserved recognition because of the consumption covid-19 took to the media. How might have Maya Gabeira been recognized differently if this would have occurred in a different year, other than 2020?

Jack, I completely agree with you. Back when the word "coronavirus" was only a word and was not a for certain "tangible" thing, we as citizens were not as worried or fearful of what was to come. However, seeing a hospital be constructed this fast could easily cause Americans to realize this could be a serious thing we are dealing with. This was a time when I started to fear the corona virus as well. I also agree, it is sure impressive to see work be put in this fast to provide for our sick citizens.

Simplicity of Sign

Within the context of the film we can observe that earlier Jack noticed Barry had not been taking his medication as he usually should. Now here we observe Barry is busy putting up the sign he created for his dad visiting. I believe the simplicity of the sign has a lot of context within the film. Although Barry's sign may be simple it is showing the heart and care for what he is doing. By putting the sign up twenty-four hours prior it shows the impact his dad visiting has on him. Barry is truly excited and this compassion is shown through the sign. Right now this is his main priority.

Spur of the Moment

I believe in this moment there was a lot going on. The tensions were high, people were yelling, things were happening, and Jack got pushed past his limit. I would fully agree that Jack only mentioned the medication to Arnold because it was the heat of the moment. I believe at a calmer moment Jack would not have spurred this out. However, he definitely said this during the heat of the moment without thinking of his words before he said it. Which is human nature and this happens to everyone. I do not believe Jack meant any harm by this claim, he was stressed out because of his circumstances.

Caregiving Duties of Jack Have a Deeper Meaning.

In this scene we observe Jack checking the medicine cabinet to make sure all of the boys took their medication. Jack being the boy's social worker, he takes on many jobs and duties of being their caregiver. Through the film we see he is not only their caregiver, but he is their role model. They look up to Jack and I know deep in Jack's heart he is going to struggle to tell the boys he has to leave. It is the little things such as checking their medication in which Jack won't be able to perform for them once he is gone. These duties are not "work" for Jack this is his life. These boys are his life.

Scene to Real Life. "Is that right Jack?"

In this moment Jack is facing the truth of the matter. The job as a social worker can often times consume the life of the worker. The job of a social worker is not just a job, it becomes one's life. Overtime Jack being the boys social worker has made a huge impact on him. Jack's wife is openly stating his dealing with "feeling guilty of doing something for himself." The therapist says "Is that right Jack?" Jack knows the truth, he needs to leave the boys although it will be something very hard to do. I feel that anyone in Jack's position would feel the same pressure and guilt.

During this moment in time on the film Jack is having some hardship within his situation. He states "they deserve better, I deserve better, somebody deserves better." Jack is noticing in which his life is being consumed by the lifestyle of being a care taker to the boys. However, he knows deep in his heart the boys deserve to have someone great. They deserve someone who will put all of their thought, care, and attention towards. Jack knows this will take a huge toll on the boys, as they are very attached to him. But this is what is best for Jack and he knows it.

I could not have said it better. As time goes on mental health is becoming more and more of a known subject. I feel that this poem was as well intended to young people who are afraid to speak their minds. It is often found that adolescents are afraid to speak how they feel in fear of disapproval.

Repeating words/lines and their effect

In the 5th stanza Akin Olunsanya stated "Had all, lost all," He repeated himself in this quote. There is significant meaning behind these repeated words in which he said. In the previous lines he describes his mind to be "overwhelmed" and refers that he once was "a man with great pride." However now as he says "Had all, lost all," this shows the downfall of his mental health. This is raw. Akin feels as if he had it all and then lost it all. As a person that is one of the worst possible feelings, to feel as though you have everything and then have it be taken from you.
