This sentence describes how people, specifically men in this context, see a dream they wish to achieve, but it's too far to reach. It sits just on the horizon, easily seen, but not able to grab.

I agree. The imagery throughout the description of this moment is very vivid. I can almost see this place and while in my mind the two settings of this and the original boxing scene are not identical, the atmospheres are nearly the same.

In this paragraph, I feel as though Brother Jack is a bit on edge by what the narrator is saying. I think he fears that if the narrator tells one of his truths and the audience doesn't agree or like it, violence will break out. "Don't end your usefulness before you've begun." makes me think Brother Jack is using the narrator to look more diverse and like a better person.

For almost 3 weeks now, I have been in quarantine. It gets really tiring and boring really fast, but going to school still needed to be a top priority. Within these many weeks, I think I've been experiencing the habit of "striving for accuracy." Education is pretty important to me and my family, which is why I believe that even at home I tried to make my work as thought out and accurate as possible. I had the choice to make my work easy and short, but without even realizing I was striving for accuracy, I did anyway and worked hard for good work.

While I do agree with this, I believe they fail to mention the students who's anxiety holds them back sometimes. It's never "This is too hard, I can't do it," but more of "I feel like this isn't good enough," so they'll do everything they can do avoid that feeling all together. Unfortunately, that sometimes results in no answer at all. Ultimately, I think educators should recognize that not all students lack skill, but simply fear what skills they have are not enough.

It kind of intimidates me at how fast someone can pick up a habit. If it's a good and healthy habit, it's a great thing. Although more often than not, I feel as though one can pick up on the unhealthy habits easier. It makes me thing of softball. I can accidently pick up a bad batting habit and when I go to lessons, my coach will call me out for it. We'd end up taking weeks just to try to lessen the affects of this new habit.

Alex Jacobs, St. Regis Mohawk Indian Nation, New York

In Alex Jacob's "Trudell," he explains how he needs to be strong for his people and those around him. At the same time though, he's scared of what more horrible things could happen to his people or his family. Near the end of his poem, he criticizes society for never thinking history can be repeated or simply only caring about the money they can collect from reservation's casinos. He wants to see history for indigenous people change, which is where Harjo's poem comes in. At the end of her poem, she states, "forty years later and we still want justice." The connection between the two poems proves a strong point that indigenous people are seeking for more rights and better lives but society holds them back.

Harjo presents an element of imagery here. When I read this sentence, I can almost image tribes of indigenous people dancing and singing around a fire together. Imagery is always an important element to bring to a work because it really helps the reader to connect and deepen their appreciation with the author and their work.

I think doing this would open up our eyes to other peoples struggles and opinions. Sometimes I feel like we don't listen to others and just assume they believe a certain thing, which can often lead to conflicts.

At first I did not understand how the two were connected but the more I thought about it I could understand how. Before any new invention is created, they always start in the unknown. They don't know if what they're doing is going to work or be effective. This works with art too. Before any artist begins a work, they are typically unsure of the outcome but work at it piece by piece. Their uncertainty in what their work will become sparked their creativity.

Intelligence does not come from testing.

For the longest time I've always felt like testing does not measure one's intelligence. It should more be measured on what you're strong at rather than measuring you in your weaknesses. I understand testing is important so teachers know you're paying attention, but I think testing should not effect your grades the way it does.

Depression feels inescapable to her

I think she's seeing her depression as inescapable because both rain and ants can't just disappear. Rain can come unexpected, and I believe she's relating that to how random her depression can be. As to the biological standpoint of ants, they can't just disappear. An ant is always being born somewhere and they won't go extinct that easily. I can see Sexton relation her depression to ants because of how difficult it is to get rid of them.
