When she is giving an example of something she seems to talk much quicker. I think this might be due to the fact that it is not as important to her message.

When she is developing a main idea in her speech, she slows down when talking about it so that the audience does not miss it.

Her pace is pretty fast so she is able to get through all of the topics she needs to discuss during her speech, but she also takes occasional pauses to account for the laughter of the audience after a joke she makes.

This sentence relates well to the theme that is state of mind. Moving in to Paris, the narrator comes in with the mindset of adapting to a new land. This shows a lot about his character.

I feel like the purpose of this paragraph is to be a narratio. This paragraph gives a lot of information. Another thing to note about this paragraph is the early development of a tone. The early tone seems to be comedic.

I completely agree with everything you said. I think London does a great job explaining how schools separate and label us. London gives his own personal story about his high school which helps give people a clearer perspective. He also refers to school as training multiple times which I really like.

This paragraph is a great representation of where the motivation for Malcolm comes from. He has always been used to being at the top, and when it comes to simple English, he is at the bottom. This frustrates him. It makes him mad that he cannot express himself through writing so it makes him want to work harder to be better at it.

I feel like I my have a different view than most people when it comes to the them of this paragraph, but in this paragraph I feel as if the theme is you do not have to listen to what people tell you. I feel like it is about not letting people boss you around and make you feel a certain way, because at the end of the day you are in control of yourself. I feel like the text indicates this when it says "what they never tell you is". For some reason this really stuck out to me.

I very much see a presence of a theme in this first paragraph. I think the theme is that you have to stick up for yourself. The women in the text had her purse snatched from her, and instead of just giving up and letting the thief take it, she beat him up and took her purse back. This can also represent a bigger meaning such as standing up for yourself in life. You have to be able to make people respect you and not push you around.

This stanza gives us an insight on to how much the author really loves hiking. the author says, "Even in my dreams I'm hiking." This shows how much hiking means to the author. If you are dreaming about something, you must really love doing it.

The death of Kobe had a very large affect on me. I remember sitting on my bed when I got a notification from CNN saying that Kobe Bryant had died in a helicopter crash. At first I just could not accept it. I just kept thinking " There is no way! There is no way right?" I remember telling my dad and he started to tear up. I was so in shock. It was the start of a very unfortunate hero. It is so unbelievable to see someone who looks like he cannot be touched die so suddenly.

I agree with you that I think the keys are mentioned so much in the movie because they mean something more than just the fact that they are keys. I feel like at this point in the movie, Norman just gives his keys to Jack knowing that he will give them back instead of having to tell Sheila he couldn't give them to her. I like the thinking of the keys representing something, but I feel like him giving keys to Jack is as simple as it sounds.

I am reading this after seeing the whole movie, so I already know that some of these things do not go according to plan. I think that the movie led us to believe that the situation with Barry and his father was not going to go well. If you remember earlier in the movie, Jack said that Barry's family left him. No loving father just abandons their child especially when they have schizophrenia. What also leads me to believe this is you can just tell how nervous Barry is. It doesn't seem like he is excited, rather worried.

Arnold tries to return groceries

When Arnold comes back to the grocery store to return the groceries, he is not given a chance to speak. This would be hard for someone with a disability because they do not want to interrupt. By the time Arnold was given a chance to talk, the cashier had already scanned half of the items. At this point, I feel as if Arnold would have been embarrassed to tell her that he is returning them. I do not think that the cashier did this on purpose, but it could of. It also could have just been the cashier was not paying enough attention to Arnold. I am curious to hear what other people think about it.

Question 13: Where is the turning point in the poem?

Line 21 where the author states,"C'mon fellas" is the turning point of the poem. In the previous lines, he talks about an experience with mental illness. We do not know if he is talking about himself, but that is what I am going to assume. He talks about how mental illness has not only affected him mentally, but have affected him mentally. How I know that line 21 is the turning point is because now he starts to talk to the audience. He starts using this experience to raise awareness for mental illness.
