I set high standards for myself whether that be how often I go or how hard I go when I'm there. I was surprised to see all the health benefits of laughing besides simply lightening the mode. I think it's important that everyone allows themselves to find humor. In a time when being outraged and upset is celebrated I think finding humor could be a good habit for many to try. A resolution was written to Native Americans during president Obama's administration in an attempt to fix all the injustices the Native Americans received. Solider's poem uses words from Congress's resolution to describe her feeling about this so called "justice". https://tile.loc.gov/storage-services/service/afc/afc2020004/afc2020004_29/afc2020004_29_ms02.pdf Tue, 26 Jan 2021 08:45:47 -0500 Lack of inclusion https://nowcomment.com/documents/252045?scroll_to=2292195 https://nowcomment.com/documents/252045?scroll_to=2292195 Harjo mentions in the PBS article that indigenous people are not fairly represented in american storytelling and that they feel invisible so by writing "We are still America" it reminds the reader the importance of including these indigenous people and their stories into our history. I also thought the description of the millionaires was entertaining. I do believe that sometimes people with great wealth and power do see themselves as "virtues concretely". I've never been challenged sitting in my bed eating and watching Netflix. You'll never be pushed to become better if your always comfortable. Outside of your comfort zone is where you learn the most about yourself and others. We must first be willing to let go of our certainty and listen. Fri, 22 Jan 2021 14:36:37 -0500 Never being rewarded for being wrong https://nowcomment.com/documents/251070?scroll_to=2284701 https://nowcomment.com/documents/251070?scroll_to=2284701 I thought these sentences were dead on. I can distinctively remember the times I'd get candy for getting an answer correct or knowing my vocab in Mrs. Prout's class. Never once was I rewarded for getting the wrong answer, instead if I wasn't certain I was right I'd go mute. It was never rewarding to be the kid who couldn't do the f(x) assignments or recite O Captain. They surround themselves with people who believe what they believe and will repeat what they say. I see this most commonly with religious people or people invested into politics. I see ourselves becoming increasingly divided in a time where we need to all be unified. I then thought about other people who seem so bright and happy and how I've thought before that "they're so happy they could never be sad or depressed" which is completely untrue. Sometimes the people I look at as incapable of being sad are the saddest ones in reality Wed, 28 Oct 2020 14:58:30 -0400
