I agree the goverment definitely owes the family money for the damage that was done, because they failed to protect Black Wall Street. Over the years, they still haven't paid them for the dmaange that was done. I believe they should of done more to protect the Black Tulsans in Greenwood.
Over years, the story had been told and Black Wall Street has been reubilt but the family has still never been paid. Remind you they told the survivors they had to move somewhere else and couldn't rebuild Black Wall Street when the massacre happened in 1921.

I find this quote interesting because this quote exists in the present. If we don't learn history then we are going to repeat it because when we don't understand history how will it ever change. We have to understand our history in order for it to change. If we don't get taught what has happened in our history, especially the important events in history, then we are going to keep repeating it. We have to learn and understand what was done to our generations!

This is crucial that they burnt Tulsa so terribly, that even the descendants of the family members can't even say their family lived there because you can't even see anything because of the horrible burning that was down in Greenwood. It's mournful that Greenwood was once a happy place for their loved ones to end up burned like that...
It's heartbroken that you have to imagine to even see what your family's house in Tulsa would even look like, it's even more heartbroken that they were left with nothing...

This makes me connect back to the first episode on how the lady said that her home was robbed, so I can only imagine how the Black Tulsans felt to have EVERYTHING taken away from them, and then they can't even remember what they had, they have to imagine it...

This makes me connect to the white people thinking Black Wall Street in Greenwood has more power than them because they are having this successful "market".

This makes me connect to why they would have wanted to burn down their city because they think they are the ones that are supposed to have power.

This also makes me connect to the present of how the economic system got switched around, how the African-American's economics were stolen from them.
But this also makes me connect to how the word of it becoming so successful spread and how that was dangerous because of the white people being jealous.

Yes, it was a good thing it spread so more black people can come to Greenwood but also bad because more white people knew about it, and this makes me connect back to how they started planning...

They planned this massacre for a very long time, the event that happened was an excuse to why they'd done the massacre.

The African-Americans weren't prepared for this but that was the white people's whole plan, which was to make them that prepared but they were because they planned it for a long time.

I understand what he is saying, what you are committed to and your culture is how you are going to name your children. So in particular, he does this work and is doing this for the rest of his life, so he would never name his children after a white culture because of the work he does and what he believes in, he is committed to that work.

Exactly, so they got uncomfortable so they destroyed their community.
They were uncomfortable because they thought they were better than African-Americans so in their minds, they are like "Oh so these niggers think they are better than us?" So the white people seeing this successful community made them uncomfortable, which causes the black community danger because of jealousy. The jealousy is what made them uncomfortable, racism is what made them uncomfortable...Seeing black people thrive is what made them uncomfortable...

This is very touching, these children were going to the park to play and see their friends and they see their own people being burned alive... This makes me connect back to when they were having "a carnival" and what they meant by was the lynching of African-Americans. When you see these things or anything that causes trauma and you hold onto it, it will spark something in you and it will be passed on to the next generation.

I really like the term he used of white body supremacy because it really demonstrates what white people did to us African-Americans with their bodies. For example, he said, "it rape, and steals land." It shows the destruction they did to African-Americans with their body and the decisions that made with their body. What they did to us throughout history with their bodies...

This shows me how traumatizing this was to have to go through this, I feel like it doesn't matter what age someone gets, this is an unforgettable event, and it makes me connect back to how the white people tried to make this event be forgotten by trying to hide it for so long. I am so glad that Fletcher and all the other survivors spoke up about this event despite the fear that had in their hearts and being traumatized.

This is upsetting that they joked around about killing black people. They literally killed African-Americans for being human, they didn't have to do anything wrong they were already targeted and then became "the hunted game."

Imagine how that made African-Americans feel to be played like this, and become the hunted game... It was about their feelings and their lives.

This makes me relate back to when they started using photography to make black people look a certain way and put this image out there of them that wasn't true, imagine how they felt but they still fought back and through it1

That is what's so powerful about us African-Americans, we have resilience, no matter what we keep fighting, even when we don't have the answer to why things are happening. There are so many heroes in history that helped shape society, Rosa Parks, Mamie Till, Jackie Robinson, The Black Panther, and Malcom X...

This makes me relate back to the "carnival" they had. When they were lynching African-American soldiers... It's like they are celebrating with getting away with this because they know nothing would happen. They enjoy killing us and celebrating it like it's a party.

This also makes me relate back to the Emmett Till case when the white men who killed him were in the courtroom drinking and laughing. That is because they knew the system was racist and that they would let them go.

This shows how tired black people were and that they were willing to fight back! This shows how long this has been going on and how long they have been tired!

This makes me connect back in time to when black men were dying trying to defend their people!

For example, Martin Luther King died defending his people, he knew he was at risk of death and was willing to die to stand up and defend his people!

How can we learn more about history to be more powerful than the government? It can! Knowledge is the key to life!

I agree, they were worried about the lives of their families because of all the lynching that was going on. It's so sad that while you are away fighting for freedom, you have to worry about your family being lynched. This shows how horrible and horrific racism was, and how this made black people feel.
This shows the point they were willing to go, that they would kill the woman, and she was a pregnant woman. They were literal monsters, this shows how much hatred they had towards African-Americans of all genders...
This makes me connect to Mamie Till of when she showed the public what those monsters did to her son, I can only imagine how much strength that took her to do that as a MOTHER and a woman. But also how much fear she had in her heart, the fear of not being lynched next...

This also shows how much she loved her son, she didn't care what the white people thought, she still took the risk, and it paid off. That is what a true hero looks like...

So, I feel like starting in your country is always important.

This was definitely a fun place to be and very interesting! It interests me that white people were so interested in Black Wall Street that they came there! But white people/mobs were also the ones to burn Black Wall Street down...
But white people coming to Black Wall Street really shows how successful Black Wall Street was and how well they were thriving! This also shows how much they had to offer since white folks were coming there and looking for the best mechanic in town!

I think this relates to the experience of young black people in Philadelphia today because I feel young black people have to hide because of the fear that they might be the next victim of police brutality and will be on the news because of their skin color. This is how young black people in Philadelphia have to hide their skin color or not go to certain places because they don't want to be shot to death because of all the racism that is going on in Philadelphia today. Or just the fear of walking out the door as a black person today and not knowing if you will make it back in the house because of the racism in Philadelphia. Definitely as an African-American male but they don't care they would do it to African-American women too.

This shows how racism/race impacted these children in Tulsa/Greenwood to be frightened, the ones who survived this massacre were probably impacted for the rest of their lives from trauma. Imagine you as a child and don't know what is going on, and don't even know what racism is but you have to suffer and see your community burn down because of racism/race. It also impacted those children to lose their family members, imagine how that felt! All because of racism and you don't even know what that means as a child. You are just trying to live your life as a child, and see flames burning your community and have to hide under your bed not knowing what is going to happen next.

This shows hows the black community was destroyed by the impact of race. (The black community in Oklahoma was destroyed by white mobs.) This shows how much white people hated Black people, and how black people were impacted by their race. They were a thriving black community, and the race of white people impacted their thriving black community(Black Wall Street) because of racism and hatred. The burning down of their community affected the black families to be left with no homes.

This shows the connection of how it is to be brown and her personal connection of liking nice things. (She was robbed.) I like that she made that personal connection of being robbed as a brown person and Brown/Black Tulsans having their city burned down. I also liked how she made other connections like how they make mistakes as she does. This makes me say they were just normal humans that happened to have a successful neighborhood, that the white mobs burned down.

I think integration hurts black businesses because I think that black people are not supporting each other as much as they used to. I don't see a lot of black businesses in black neighborhoods. Maybe segregation made it more for them to support each other and be a push for each other but now today that made has hurt them and they aren't supporting each other as much. Maybe this event hurt them and now that may be why we don't see as many black businesses in black communities.

This makes me connect back to the economic condition of how white is put in the upper class and get paid more and African-Americans are put in the lower class and get paid less. This leads me back to opportunities that are given to them. But something defiantly needs to be done about repaying the Tulsans for what the white mobs did, they need to put more effort into it!

That's why it kept happening generations later since the start of slavery because they made it "normal". By not doing anything the first time and just keeping it under the tuck and making it okay for other white people to do it.

They were definitely ready for anything, it took a lot of power to go to the courthouse and stand up for their people despite the government not protecting them because of racism. So, the only people that can protect is your community. I honestly think they were tired and fed up and wanted something to change. So, they decided they were done seeing them get lynched and wanted to fight but they did not know that one of the most horrible events in history would happen. I honestly think the white mobs wanted to destroy their businesses and see them suffer and knew nothing would happen to them because of the racist system. I am also glad that came together as a whole group and fought against the white mobs. They were brave but also ready and prepared for anything that was going to try and stop them!

And it was said that it was a safe place for African-Americans to go to and that is why many African-Americans went there and build more than 50 Black townships in Oklahoma. So it being a safe place was really what drew African-Americans to go to the land and build all the businesses.

I wonder if this was a white community that was destroyed would they have paid them? Or maybe they wouldn't even have done this to white people because during segregation white people were always put in the upper class and African-Americans were put in the lower class. So for them to be successful African-Americans in the upper class they got jealous and wanted to destroy the thriving black community and knew that they wouldn't have to repay or be held accountable because of the racism.
