With the societal norms causing people to conform to certain standards and the new technology of Genetic Engineering, is it right for people to have the ability to select their child's traits to live up to a standard?

Pros and Cons of Genetic Engineering Information-grey

    Dr.Sai Vivek Areti

    VACCINES HAVE DANGEROUS SIDE EFFECTS

What exactly does happen to the organism upon administration of a vaccine? Of course, modern studies in the field of immunology document very well the varieties of chemical and cellular mechanisms which are brought into play, but the further question can be asked: What happens on the dynamic plane upon administration of a vaccine?

Many people overlook the potentially hazardous effects of vaccinations simply because they are not informed. Here are 7 reasons why it is bad:

    1) Administration:

Vaccination is an indiscriminate administration of a substance to an entire population without regard to individuality.

    2) Change:

Vaccination is a morbific stimulus which changes the whole constitution of the organism and weakens the defence mechanism...

The World Needs the US to Lead on Genetic Engineering Information-grey

Human-genetic engineering has gone from science fiction to science fact — at least, if you believe the reports coming out of China. A team at the Southern University of Science and Technology in Shenzhen, led by researcher He Jiankui, said it had altered the genes of twin girls while in the womb, making them more resistant to AIDS. Importantly, the scientists allegedly used Crispr, the new technique that many believe will make genetic engineering cheap and widespread.

Before rushing to declare that the world has changed, of course, the work must be verified. Chinese academia is notorious for widespread fraud, and even in far more reputable countries, big claims of biotech breakthroughs have been fabricated in the past. The Chinese government is investigating whether He’s innovation — which was announced on YouTube instead of published in a scientific journal — is real.

But even in the event that these genetically engineered superbabies turn out to be a hoax, it seems highly likely that real Crispr kids are not far behind. That means policy makers need to be thinking about how to deal with this revolutionary new technology — not just the ethics, but also the economics.

China Opens a ‘Pandora’s Box’ of Human Genetic Engineering Information-grey

A Chinese researcher’s claim that he successfully modified the genes of human embryos may force the country to make a stark choice about the future of its burgeoning biotechnology industry — one with significant implications for an emerging technology arms race with the West.

He Jiankui, an American-educated scientist based in Shenzhen, announced on Monday that he’d used Crispr, a powerful gene-editing tool, to make recently born twin girls resistant to HIV. He’s statement, which was not backed by peer-reviewed data and hasn’t been verified, prompted widespread condemnation from scientists in China and elsewhere, with many calling it an irresponsible use of a technology whose long-term effects are still poorly understood.

Yet whatever the veracity of He’s claims, it’s likely that China, with its aggressively entrepreneurial startups and less stringent regulation, will be the country where researchers most rapidly test the currently-accepted boundaries of genetic manipulation. That presents its leaders with a dilemma: Whether to follow the U.S. and Europe in strictly regulating its application, or take a more hands-off approach, catalyzing rapid innovation in a strategic industry at the cost of what could be serious risks to patients.

    “There is always the possibility...

Genetic engineering: Not fixing serious diseases could be morally wrong, expert claims Information-grey

A rogue Chinese scientist's claim to have produced the world's first genetically edited babies shouldn't scare people off the potential benefits of the technology, a Kiwi expert says. He Jiankui caused uproar when he announced the birth of twins Lulu and Nana in late November, the pair's DNA having been modified using the cutting-edge CRISPRCas9 technique to increase their genetic resistance to the HIV virus. The father was HIV-positive, and Prof He says the girls were born healthy. But this didn't stop widespread backlash amongst the scientific community, and the immediate suspension of all his research. More edited humans on the way, claims rebel scientist "What he did was really ethically dubious," University of Otago law professor Jeanne Snelling told The AM Show on Thursday. Designer babies: Picking traits for non-medical reasons could be 'morally permissible', says UK ethics group Information-grey

Letting parents use new gene-editing technology to pick characteristics of their unborn child can be “morally acceptable” as long as it doesn’t increase social inequalities, an influential medical ethics group has said.

In a major report on the looming frontier of human gene-editing, the Nuffield Council on Bioethics (NCB) said it did not believe there was an ethical red line in tinkering with the genetic material that will be passed to future generations.

It also did not draw a distinction between using these techniques to tackle genetic diseases and for enhancing desirable physical or intellectual traits, so-called “designer babies”, so long as it meets strict ethical and regulatory tests.

The group, which appraises the ethical realities of new technology, called for the government to begin canvassing national opinion and said copies of the report would be sent to ministers and civil servants.

UK law does not currently permit any editing of heritable DNA – genetic information contained in an embryo, egg or sperm – though it is allowed for strictly controlled research purposes.

Even this, however, is hugely controversial and could...
