Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Pulitzer Prize-winning historian David M. Kennedy come together from remarkably different backgrounds, life experiences and points of view to explore the idea of a unifying American creed. Their spirited inquiry frames the stories of a range of citizen-activists striving to realize their own visions of America’s promise across deep divides.
American Creed launches as a nationally televised PBS Special, and as a feature documentary on PBS.org, on Feb. 27, 2018. The date marks the beginning of a robust public engagement campaign including community conversations, classroom activities and local storytelling in cities and towns across the country — all designed to foster a bold national conversation about American ideals and identity.

I agree because when their are stuff that are really important and very big issue for education, it needs to be discussed and fixed. Because education is how we learn, and if their is a problem, it can really mess up the system of education.

In America we get free K-12 school access and although most kids attend school for this time some don’t get the chance or their parents want them to work/provide for their family when they come of age and get pulled out of school. A lot of kids don’t even get the chance to even go to school or their parents don’t want them too and it’s odd to hear about situations like this.

I agree that one of the great things about America is the opportunities it provides, however, personally I believe that opportunity is not equally distributed, I believe that opportunity has a lot to do with luck and who you know. -Bailey Delcamp

Interesting point Eric! While I sort of agree with what you’re saying I do think that we have gotten to a point where people are so polarized that they outright aren’t even willing to have a conversation with somebody that doesn’t agree with them already.
A big fear that I have is that just how deep tribalism is embedded in human nature. Consider the following:
If I were to say that I think it was very reasonable for the Senate to approve Judge Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, how many people that identify as liberals do you think would be interested in understanding my perspective vs. immediately classifying me as a villain, call me names, and never even try to hear where I’m coming from.
Conversely, if I were to say that I think it is important that we be very accepting of new folks immigrating into the US, be they from Mexico, Syria, or any other location on Earth. How many people that identify as conservative do you think would be interested in understanding my perspective vs. immediately classifying me as a villain, call me names, and never even try to hear where I’m coming from.
I’m a truly affraid that we have entered a time where what you have said is not true: that our political polarization is actually causing to slow progress leaving us vulnerable a societal swing of instability.
Would love to hear your thoughts as I know I may be very wrong here but this is my world view as I see.

America is CRAZY cool because we permit people to disagree with those in power and complain/make as much noise as they would like without imprisoning or killing them. Few other countries on the planet, and yes it is 2018 we have the internet, we have rocketships, we have made so much progress yet still the list of countries where you would be imprisoned or worse for speaking out far exceeds the list of countries that see disagreement as a mechanism for healthy growth in society.
In fact, it’s rather scary to me to know that the default state of society would be a system where you would be severely reprimanded for having a different opinion and speaking up. It is scary that America is in all seriousness, the exception to the rule 😖

I definitely agree with this. No one is born with racist ideas or beliefs, it can only be taught. Particularly through society and households. This mindset that comes from society is inevitable. Since there are so many different people around us the duration of our life.
