Hello Rwanda ASB Team,
This documentary is shorter, about ½ an hour, and provides a great overview of the genocide. You will be able to see really rare historical footage of the colonial period and interviews with survivors and some key figures.
One thing I would like to note is that this documentary is older than Frontline’s. This documentary was created in 1997, only three years after the genocide ended. You will see the video end discussing the prison conditions in Rwanda post-genocide. These conditions did nout end until the formation of the Gacaca grassroots, communal justice courts in 2001.
Some of these images are difficult to see, and I urge you to take your time watching this. Please use the forum to the right of the screen for our discussion. Feel free to contact Annemarie or I to discuss things further if you feel you need a better debrief.
If you are interested in a more in-depth lesson on the genocide, please proceed to the next video, Ghosts of Rwanda.
Respectfully,
Monique LaValley
