We discussed in class about how to actively listen to someone and how awareness is the most fundamental connection skill there is. There are 3 subgroups within awareness; self awareness (what's going on inside you), social awareness (what is going on for the person), and relationship awareness (how you and the other person are coming together). Other traits such as listening, supporting, boundary sensitivity, separating thoughts and feelings, responding, clarity and directness, asserting, receiving, and lastly humor coincide with awareness to be a better active listener. The ones that stood out to me the most as being the most important were humor, responding, and clarity and directness. I believe that humor is one of my better traits within listening because I like to lighten the mood, so that its not so serious all the time. It's also said by general Dick Abel from when he was in war the marines use to sing and make their own music to lighten up the mood or crack jokes. I like to believe that I am clear and direct with what I say. However I do know that I stutter and mumble sometimes. My worst trait by far is responding. Since I am an objective based person I answer questions a lot, even when people just want to be heard. I am always trying to fix whatever problem is at my front door which can be a burden on myself sometimes.
