…interested in ecoMOD as affordable housing?

The ecoMOD designs are developed as prototypes for affordable housing organizations. The ecoMOD teams work directly with these organizations to design and build the designs – making sure to stay within the budget of the organization. Each completed prototype is occupied by qualified affordable housing homeowners or renters.

If you are a potential affordable housing homeowner, or if you are part of an affordable housing organization, and you are interested in using one of the ecoMOD designs on your own site, please contact ecoMOD Project Director John Quale at[email protected]. The designs can be licensed to affordable housing organizations for a small token licensing fee—lower than the standard fee for market-rate housing. Our goal is have make the design as broadly available for affordable housing as possible.

Most of the designs can be built as single family or duplex units. ecoMOD4 can be built as single family, duplex or multi-family townhomes.

… a potential homeowner?

The ecoMOD designs were developed as prototypes for affordable housing organizations, but affordable, sustainable housing is appealing to people at all income levels.

If you want to get a complete set of the construction documents (CAD or PDF files) to build one of the designs on your own site, please contact ecoMOD Project Director John Quale at [email protected]. To get the design, you must pay a licensing fee—comparable to what you would pay to a ‘home plan’ magazine or website. You can either work with a modular homebuilder that you hire, or with a normal on-site homebuilder. The designs are easily adapted to on-site construction and your builder or modular homebuilder can help you adapt the design if necessary. Our goal is have make the designs as broadly available as possible.

If you would prefer to work with a company that can help you adapt the design and procure it as a modular home, Cardinal Homes has licensed the ecoMOD South design and is a preferred fabricator of ecoMOD designs. Cardinal Homes, based in Wylliesburg, Virginia, provides modular houses to the Southern states and was the modular homebuilder chosen for the ecoMOD South project.
