The letter to Bambara

Dear Toni Cade Bambara,

I am very inspired by your short story , “The lesson,” because it talk about the low income African American family’s children. Who do not have social and educational equality. This story is example of young poor children voice.

One set of line that stands out for me is,” Back in the days when everyone was old and stupid or young and foolish and me and Sugar were the only ones just right, this lady moved on our block with nappy hair and proper speech and no makeup. And quite naturally we laughed at her, laughed the way we did at the junk man who went about his business like he was some big-time president and his sorry-ass horse his secretary.” This line describe a prevalent feeling that teenager have toward other people because most of teenager are inexperienced.

Your short story helps me to understand a low income African American teenagers lifestyle. Also I learned how the poor people were living at that time.

Thanks for your short story “The lesson”. I look forward to seeing what you make next.
