The three stories describe their characters as a poverty-stricken peolpe. The story “Everyday Use,” charctarized the protganist, Mama, as a person who lives in Africa and her house was eaten by the flames. This immediately establish that Mama is a poor person, because once your dwelling get burned down, you basically lose everything. The story “The Lesson,” focused on a group of children who live in the slum in NYC. Since they live in the slum, they are immediately poor. The story “How to Date a Brown Girl (Black Girl, White Girl, or Halfie),” presented the protganist as someone who is trying to hide all the hints in his house to date a girl for a different racr than his.
