What Is Animal Cruelty and How Can We Stop it For Good?

Transcript

As many as 250,000 animals are found being neglected each year, as each year passes more cases are being discovered. These animals are constantly suffering unjustly. When people think about animals rights they focus on the testing being done on animals, animals being neglected are being overlooked although they are suffering just as much as the animals being tested on.

My family took in a dog previously rescued from a puppy mill; having a dog from a neglectful place like this has increased my awareness of the negative effects mistreatment can have on ay7n animal. By seeing the fear she has when she sees someone new makes me feel sympathy for the thousands of animals being neglected and how their lives will be changed forever from the effects of cruelty. Stated by The Humane Society, “Animal cruelty and neglect includes intentional harm or ignoring an animal's needs. Animal cruelty has been linked to crime and domestic abuse. ... anxiety and other negative effects on the animal's physical and psychological well-being.” This evidence shows how any animal that has or is being neglected can be damaged from it mentally and physically.

More awareness should be spread about the terrible issues regarding neglect towards animals. Positive things we citizens could do in response to this issue is to make sure we are taking proper care of our pets, educating the people around us about the issue, reporting animal cruelty, and demanding stricter laws for the protection of animals. There are many animal rights activists who help animals anytime an opportunity is presented, organize events to help educate the public about this issue, and protest against the inhumane treatment against animals. According to Sentient Media, “Animal cruelty can take many different forms, as you’ll discover below, but the impact is always the same. A sentient animal capable of love and creating social relationships experience pain, fear, and desperation. And it needs to stop.” This is further proof that every animal deserves life.

In the next presidential election, make sure you vote for the candidate who values the lives of animals and wants to make sure they are respected.
