Americans owe about 1 trillion dollars on their student loans, that is a huge number and is completely ridiculous. How is it that in order to succeed in life and really make something of yourself you have to live with this weight on your shoulders. On top of that, the average amount of years that it takes for someone to pay off their student debt is 21.1 years, and that is not even a guarantee, it will most likely take longer than that. The main reason for all of this debt is due to the fact that tuition has more than doubled since the 1980’s. And what is the government doing to help the issue, well I think that the 1 trillion dollars owed answers that question. The efforts that they are making to decrease this number is slim to none. And we can’t do anything about it, all we can do is continue to go to college and hope that we can get scholarships to help pay for everything. A student should not be worried about how they are going to pay for college or stressed about how long it is going to take to pay student debt off, they should be focused on their major and what major is going to be the best option for them.
