I am impressed, touched, and inspired by your story, “The Lesson,” because the unique way Miss Moore the teacher tries to instill a lesson to some black families students, which is the title of the story is so related with the narration. I love the idea of how she wants to implement or implant a new idea in their minds the real issues in society so they can be realistic.

One set of lines that call my attention, is the beginning of the story when the Author said “Back in the days when everyone was old and stupid or young and foolish and me and Sugar were the only ones just right, this lady moved on our block with nappy hair and proper speech and no makeup.” These lines are strong just by seeing the way how is trying to wake up the reader because we can observe the language structure the tone is very fresh and surprising, people from all ages can keep reading without boredom.

Another set of lines that stands out for me is, “Imagine for a minute what kind of society it is in which some people can spend on a toy what it would cost to feed a family of six or seven. What do you think?” This section is true and so thought-provoking and not only in that time still today we are facing the same problem. In the worst part is some people seem receptive or accepting of reality.

I am surprised and captured by your short story, “ How to Date a Browngirl, Blackgirl, Whitegirl, or Halfie,“ because it demonstrates a real situation between racial equality during that time but still we can observe some similarities in today's society. Your writing opened my eyes to explore more of our surroundings where people can always find something to write about . A new idea would be there waiting to be exposed.

One set of lines that stands out for me is, “Don’t panic. Say, Hey, no problem. Run a hand through your hair like the white boys do, even though the only thing that runs easily through your hair is Africa.” I think that these facts were very crucial in that time based on your hairstyle you can easily determine if the person has a different background and people started to discriminate against you based on your physical condition.

Another stanza that stands out for me is, “Clear the government cheese from the refrigerator. If the girl’s from the Terrace, stack the boxes in the crisper. If she’s from the Park or Society Hill, then hide the cheese in the cabinet above the oven, where she’ll never see it. Leave a reminder under your pillow to get out the cheese before morning or your moms will kick your ass.” Because it reflects that even these places where people live can influence their personality or the way they act and look. I am not surprised at all because we can see this situation happening in today's society rich people living in their area we don’t see that much integration in some parts of the city.
