Prompt: Stephanie is a 16-year-old with a moderate learning disability as well a physical disability. When Stephanie entered high school, her parents asked that she be placed in all general education classes with the support of a special education teacher. The high school IEP team concluded that the least restrictive environment for Stephanie would be a self-contained classroom. Although believing that the inclusion setting was critical to Stephanie's development, the parents reluctantly agreed to Stephanie being placed in a self-contained class for a nine-week trial period. The teacher wants to build communication with the parents to foster a positive educational atmosphere for Stephanie and help all involved to make good use of the nine-week trial period.
Task: List and describe THREE methods that the teacher of the self-contained class can use to foster positive communications with the parents. Be sure that your description is detailed enough to make clear your reason for suggesting each method.

One way for them to communicate is on over the phone. The teacher and parents can discuss how she’s getting along in her 9-week trial period. Maybe set aside 15 to 20 minutes each week for a friendly update.
Face to Face would significantly foster trust Stephanie improve in a specific academic area. This will allow the parents to see the sincerity in the teacher gestures, in his/her demeanor, voice, and eyes.
Email is a popular and easy way to stay in touch with the parent.

There are so many methods that a teacher can use to foster positive communications with parents. Communication is a two way street for both teacher and parents to be actively involved in the students life. Teachers are responsible for the students’ academic and year round development.
The first method is to be open and honest and frequently sharing your understanding of their students’ strength and weaknesses. When having conferences to discuss the students progress. You can focus on the positive things that the student has accomplished. This will allow parents to give you some suggestions for the goals and inventions. The more you keep the parents informed the relationship between you and them will be well respected, trustworthy and meaningful.
The second method is to keep clear and precise data on the students progress. It is very important to document your student’s present level of performance. This will allow parents to see their student’s academic strengths and challenges as well as functional performance or any behavior issues. This will allow the parents to know what instruction is working and what instruction is not working. By doing so, you and parent can develop goals and analyze the effects of specific interventions on skills and behaviors so that the student can be successful. Having the parents be involved in all decision making puts them at ease and they will feel that they have made the right decisions concerning their student.
The Third method of communication is to communicate with parents via email, text messaging, printed communication, and phone calls. By giving the parents access to you as the teacher, will make them feel more comfortable knowing that they have many ways to get in contact with you on a daily basis.
Communication is the key to success.

GREAT response, Rochelle. Tying is back to the prompt is key and you did that wonderfully. It was well organized.
I am not sure how long you spent composing your response, but I challenge you to time yourself next time. On the actual Praxis you want to spend no more than 10 minutes per constructed response.
I would score this a 3/3 according to the rubric.

The three Methods of positive communication I will used would be :
Class Dojo, Phone call to parent, and Face to Face/ Invite the parent to shadow the class
Class Dojo – Class Dojo is an App that is mostly used in schools. It is a school communication program that is design for teachers, students, and families use every day to build close-knit communities by sharing what’s being learned in the classroom home through photos, videos, and messages. Students enjoy this app because they are able to earn points for behavior and when they complete assignments. Teachers tend to make it competitive by awarding the top students with the higher points.
Phone call to parent Phone call to parents are good way to communicate to parents. During the phone call with parents you can inform them about their child work performance and behavior. I will discuss the short-term goals I have for the child and what methods I plan to put in place so that the child c the an achieve the goal. Teachers should call and give the parent positive report occasionally. When a child exhibits a negative behavior, the teacher will feel comfortable discussing the problem that they have had with their child and come of with a resolution to solve the problem.
Face to Face/ Invite the parent to shadow the class Teachers should always have an open invite for parents to have face to face conversations with them. This will allow teachers to show the parent their child data book and be able to address their problems and concerns. Teachers should encourage the parent to shadow the class so they can observe the teacher teaching style and methods. At this time the teacher can offer suggestions on how the parent can assist with homework and how their annual goal.

Describe three methods the teacher of the self-contained class could use to foster positive communication with parents includes:
1. First scheduling a teacher parent conference in person to meet and greet whereby the teacher could explain her teaching philosophy as well as introduce the students in the class to the parent. The teacher could collaborate with the parent discussing any specifics which the parent might have, listening to the parent’s concerns. While In the classroom, the teacher could explain her teaching curriculum as well as the student’s syllabus for the up and coming semester. In addition, the student’s accommodations could be explained along with the student’s annual goals and objectives. Student work samples would be something for the teacher to display for the parent.
2. Secondly, the teacher could provide the parent with information on the school’s website and introduce the parent to her classes page. On the page, the teacher could provide the parent with schedules, which include homework, up and coming tests, school activities along with ways to log onto the website. On the website the teacher could explain to the parent about school sponsors.
3. The third method includes the teacher giving the parent her contact information which includes, phone number for voice and text, e-mail address along with a list of community organizations which offer assistance should the parent decide to involve her child in any after school community activities.
One of the most important things that the teacher needs to ensure that the parent understands that her child’s needs and welfare are cared for and that as the teacher she would do everything possible to ensure the child masters her assigned annual goals and objectives.
