Section II: The Statistics
- The United States incarcerates more of its citizens than any other nation in the world.
- The jail and prison population has gone from less than 200,000 in 1972 to 2.2 million today.
- Incarceration in the United Stateshas increased by more than 500% in the last 40 years.
- The United States makes up about 5% of the world’s population and has 21% of the world’s prisoners.
- 4.6 million people were on probation or parole in 2015 for a total of 6.7 million people in America under some form of criminal justice supervision
- 1 in every 37 adults in the United States, or 2.7% of the adult population, is under some form of correctional supervision.
- As of 2007, more than half of those incarcerated were parents of children under the age of 18.
- The number of Americans with criminal records is about the same as the number of Americans with a 4-year degree.
The Unites States is a nation that has a large number of minorities with majority in power. When this occurs, there is often injustice in the legal system. This is because there is no relatedness to those in power, majority, to those being mistreated,the minority. As stated in the video, “nowhere in the world incarcerates as much as we (Americans) do”. This is because in any other nation, the minority is the majority.
What better way to avoid that then putting them in prison? In addition to the hardships of already being discriminated against as a minority, they have to face not being able to get jobs, stability, or provide for themselves which a lot of times lead to them being repeated offenders.
With this being done, messes up many young kids lives. People get stuck ti what they do. and cannot get out of it, and with these poor decisions that they come around, it not only affect the kids but also influence the people that they are around.

hardships. America has such a wealth divide that it makes it hard for the majority to relate but even so the majority only sees the minorities as less than and that the can do no good. Evidence of this is the rate of incarceration. The videos even state the fact that America has the largest incarceration rate in the world.
There are many people in prison that shouldn’t be there, and instead should be getting rehab.

I agree with you because after an inmate gets out of jail they will forever be looked at as a criminal
Not only are we set up to fail, but us rebelling just adds on to our mass incarceration rates. We make up only 5 percent of the worlds population and yet we have 21 percent of the worlds prisoners. If you think about it, every aspect of our lives are controlled by the system in some way, shape, or form. Especially because today, we use technology in mostly everything, making our personal business more accessible and able to be controlled. We are only “free” under the systems control, rules, and regulations. Prisons are the only legal form of modern day enslavement, being that slavery is abolished.
There parent will not be able to tell the from wrong or right. Children that gets taken away from their parents and our jumping from home to home will probably end up in the system also so this is messing up children’s life at a very young age.
I agree with Alyssa Fields because the parents does has a big impact on their children lives their decisions comes from what they’ve experience with their parents as well
With this being said a lot of parents who have young children that is getting incarcerated can also have an big influence on other kids life that is growing up as well. well I feel is an opportunity for those who are incarcerated to get others to not do the same as them. Parents have problems as well so they cannot always tend to their children some parents struggle and some parents have to work all day everyday so they cannot have no time to look out such as single women or single fathers. Do to this young children will then begin to make a way for themselves such as Money, Clothes, food and etc. BY robbing, stealing, and turning their backs on each other. will then lead to incarceration.
They said in 2007 half of the incarnations were parents or children under 18, so if the kids see them going to jail and they’re still kids they’re gonna learn from that and do the same thing.

yeah, i agree with you, because they like to keep their prisoners in for a long time, and that the cause of the high rates for prisoner.

The United States incarcerates more of its citizens than any other nation in the world. I think thats a problem because also its more black men than any other race thats being incarcerated. which is also causing broken families within the black community which then leads to younger kids without a father figure and they end up going down the wrong road someday
But yes the untied states incarcerates more of the citizens
