Section III: The Costs
Its so overcrowded because whoever gets out more than likely will end right back in and thats just the sad truth.
I agree with Que Howard because inmates do not have a life outside of prison so if they have a little assistance then more than likely the overcrowded would be less crowded
In this society we have laws where you can go to jail for anything but no activities for anybody. when inmates get out of jails they have nothing to go to so they have no choice but to start doing the same thing they did when they was inside. In life you go through many different phases so I do believe in second chances or giving somebody an opportunity to do something they would like to do.
Instead of saving and spending $80 billion to make new jails and not new school, I think they should split the money at least. $40 billion towards schools & $40 billion towards jails.
When mass incarceration happens a majority of the time it is black americans being imprisoned for something little or big. But once they are imprisoned for this to get a job later on their chances are significantly decreased. Which can land them back in jail. Going to jail takes away rights of the people and forever puts a target on their back.
You cant get a regular job when people look at your background and automatically see you as a criminal from you pass.
Like the 13th amendment, their was a loop hole to it, because for any little crime they they did, they would be thrown into jail and start doing labor work.
People don’t have consideration, for people that have done wrong. Especially is their black, they don’t see the reason to help a minority with problems that they have.
of the things that wont be available for those with a record. Things such as student loans, welfare, food stamps etc. These drawbacks make it impossible for people to get back on their feet. It also increase the rate of homelessness and them going back to crime as a means of living.
People makes mistakes which is something we call life. Being in jail is already a punishment and having lack of healthcare is double punishment and wrong.
There is a difference between punishment, and cruelty. I feel people should understand there are repercussions for their actions, but they are also entitled to being treated fairly and not like an animal.
They provide inmates with the bare minimum of necessities which is only enough to keep them alive. The health care isn’t very efficient and the inmates cant do anything about it without being punished or overlooked. The food isn’t good and even pushes people to starve themselves. Inmates are no longer seen as human to the justice system. There really is no justice for the inmates and they just have to deal with being abused mentally and physically
Money and resort to committing crimes.
Does mass incarceration increase public safety?
What are the mesages of these political cartoons?
Questions to consider:
mass incarceration is an issue. i say its an issue because theres always a point in time where they have nomore room for inmates so the cells are overpopulated. its also an issue because theyre holding people for petty crimes like shoplifting out of family dollar
