Marsena B(Feb 17 2021 1:39PM):
The Persians survived the attack by blending in with the Iranians? I wonder how they stayed together and why they had to blend in with Iranias. Is it because Iran grew strong and they feared that if they weren't Iranians, they'd die?
Jhamir B(Feb 17 2021 10:45AM):
I noticed in the second panel you can’t tell the difference from Marji and her classmates. This scene stood out to me because it shows how the girls didn’t have the freedom to wear what they want.
June F(Feb 20 2021 6:47AM):
I think that's a great point Jhamir - it's almost like Marjane as the author uses the panel placement to separate herself and the other girls are annoyed about it
Jalen R(Feb 17 2021 1:44PM):
Most of the people that are in the comic are weaaring the same thing. None of them have a differnt clothing accesorie than the other. It looks boring.
Demetrius C(Feb 17 2021 4:27PM):
Wearing the veil was very important to wear, but since they didn't how why and didn't like them they wouldn't wear them. To me, this shows a form of innocence. They didn't know the importance of the veil so they don't wear them.
Kendall T(Feb 17 2021 10:35AM):
I know that when kids are born into a religion they often don´t understand it and don´t really want to be a part of it but she knew that deep down in her heart she wanted to be religious
more
I think the picture shows how normal kids act once they join a religion
Petra B(Feb 17 2021 10:37AM):
Interesting thoughts! Yes, Marji was indeed different from her peers and thought deeply about religion and its role in her life.
Petra B(Feb 17 2021 10:34AM):
Yes it reminds me of how people use humor to cope with difficult situations, even right now in our current situation with this global pandemic.
June F(Feb 11 2021 9:28AM):
Definition: capitalism is an economic system where private businesses and companies own goods. Capitalism is associated with the United States and the Western World
Ijanay B(Feb 17 2021 12:21PM):
the author is trying to communicate that now that the revolution has started and the girls have to start wearing veils the boys can't see the girls and they can't be in the same class.
more
I wonder why they separated them, or why the boys can’t be in the same class now that the girls have their veils on?
Isaiah B(Feb 17 2021 10:31AM):
I notices that in the picture people protesting and arguing out on the streets. They all look mad at each other going against each other.
it a connection to born of crime because Trevor’s mom will fight for what right. she will not change what she look like. she will be proud for what she did.
Shekera W(Feb 17 2021 1:40PM):
I noticed that on each side of the picture, it's something different about her. It's like she's two different people for how people want to see her as and how she really is.
June F(Feb 11 2021 9:30AM):
Definition: Zoroastrianism is one of the oldest monotheistic religions. This was the official religion of Iran until the Muslim conquest (or Arab invasion)

June F(Feb 11 2021 9:32AM):
Che Guevara, Fidel Castro, and Trotsky are all famous revolutionaries promoting communism and rebellion in Cuba and Russia.

June F(Feb 17 2021 9:43AM):
In this panel I notice that there are number of people on top of each other and none of them look particularly happy. They're on a bicycle with five wheels, but no one seems to be "driving" the bike.

I think that Marjane Satrapi might be trying to communicate that the revolution was chaotic in Iran. No one is clearly taking the lead even though there are many Iranians involved in the conflict.
Petra B(Mar 03 2021 10:32AM):
Good question Nasira-children often imitate the adults in their lives or what they see others around them doing (in images/posters/movies)
Yasir D(Feb 17 2021 10:42AM):
If the author says the bicycle is the revolution and the people on it are the revolutionaries that keep it going. By the people with closed eyes on the bicycle I'd say the author is trying to tell us some people must make sacrifices for change to come
Jadon E(Feb 17 2021 12:24PM):
The same way children today pretend to be characters they look up to,these kids in the time and state of their country pretend to be revolution leaders.
Tyairra G(Feb 17 2021 12:25PM):
I notice a few people are laying among the bodies with their eyes closed. Could they possible represent the lives lost in a leaderless revolution?
June F(Feb 20 2021 6:53AM):
Such an interesting observation! Since we are first meeting Marji in these chapters, I'm glad you're thinking about how we should characterize her!
Dillon J(Feb 17 2021 1:44PM):
What I notice about this part is the little quote when it says (The revolution is like a bicycle, when the wheels dont turn, it falls) and think that means if they stop fighting for even a second the whole movement that they are moving will fall and break
Heaven H(Feb 17 2021 1:43PM):
I wonder why everyone is on top of each other,on top of bikes, also why none of them look happy, they all look confused, upset and uncomfortable.

June F(Feb 11 2021 9:34AM):
Karl Marx wrote The Communist Manifesto and inspired revolutionaries around the world. Descartes was a French mathematician and philosopher.
Ciahnee B(Feb 17 2021 12:28PM):
I wonder why the police killed over 300 innocent people just to prove a point. By doing that, that'll just make things worst, because the families would want justice for their loved ones inside that building.
[Edited]
Kemet K(Feb 17 2021 1:41PM):
The cops locked a large number of people in the movie theaters just to beat them to death. Plus the innocent people were locked in fire
I notice that its a group of people with angry expressions on their face shouting with “DOWNWITHTHEKING!” also raising their fist, the people clearly does not agree with the king hence going against him
Brian R(Mar 03 2021 2:00PM):
Marji starts to get upset after her parents dont do we she wants. These moments can build to the reasoning behind rebeling later in the Persepolis.
Zaade M(Feb 17 2021 1:41PM):
I notice that the only reason that she liked the king was that she was told he was chosen by god. this tells me that there are most likely other kids who believe the same.
Tyshawn M(Feb 17 2021 10:35AM):
I notice a prince riding a elephant with some creature behind sneaking up on him with a dagger and a menacing look. I think this could represent all of his riches and money may be about to be taken or something may happen to this prince.
Jordan K(Feb 17 2021 10:36AM):

I noticed that the mother was young when the police came to her door asking for her father. This scene stood out to me because she was so young when she sees the police taking her father away. She shouldn’t have been able to see that.
The author was trying to convey that Marji’s mother went through the pain of a loved one being imprisoned by the government. The deeper meaning of this is how the Irans suffered. Not only did the prisoners suffer, but the family members were affected as well.
Jiniah R(Feb 17 2021 12:25PM):
i notice that god appeared when she was trying to see what being in a cell filled with water felt like but a couple pages before he didn't show up when she needed help.

Aissata T(Feb 17 2021 10:29AM):
I notice, the grandma tried to make it seem like everything was okay when it wasn't.I think the author is trying to communicate that people were judgemental. You had to look a certain, or dress a certain way.
June F(Feb 11 2021 9:38AM):
Cyrus the Great: an ancient leader of the Persians, he was the first king of the Persian Empire and established a huge empire through military campaigns.
Amir w(Feb 17 2021 10:31AM):
I noticed that while they are at the grave and telling cyrus rest in peace and talking too him its kinda funny cause it shows him with his eyes wide open looking up at them and Cyrus is not a normal size for a person
Santee S(Feb 17 2021 12:33PM):
I think the author Marjane Satrapi is trying to communicate that instead of the money going to the people to help them with their needs or even build their country to be better, they instead put all the money into objective and bad ideals how they money.

The population could care less because nothing is going towards them there not even being thought about, they all know he’s being used but there’s no point in telling him that. As they try and impress other people most of the population is losing faith because there honestly being used.
Aubrey W(Feb 17 2021 12:32PM):
I noticed that with all the picture in one you could see all the different stories. Even though it was forbidden to pictures help she more with details.
Semaj W(Feb 17 2021 10:41AM):
I notice. Police are standing outside aiming guns at people complete chaos I see police arresting some people, also I see a person with a bloody shirt and there is people helping him get up.
Saniyah T(Feb 17 2021 1:44PM):
I wanted to connect this to all of the riots and protests of 2020 and the beginning of 2021.

All of the people who went to protests, their families at home probably felt the exact same way that Marji, her mom and grandmother felt which was not being sure if they were going to see their loved one again.
