1839 – In India’s city Coringa a huge 40 foot tidal wave caused by a cyclone wiped out the harbour city that was never rebuilt. 20,000 vessels in the bay were destroyed and 300,000 people killed. (Timeline internet).

1866 – Australia’s Yelverton Jarrah sawmill opened in 1866 about the same time as Ben Masons sawmill. The timber was shipped to the overseas market, Calcutta India. Loading of boats with timber at Lockeville was a slow job. (Western pioneers ©1980 JE Hammond).
